Scott Keith has been recapping old issues of the observer on his blog. Apparently, Dusty Rhodes had an idea for Halloween Havoc called the "Master of the Maze" match, where two guys wrestled in a plexiglass cage trying to escape. There was also a proposed "Georgia City" match which was supposed to be a reverse battle royale with quicksand in the ring (dont ask me how that would work or where they would get the quicksand).

The original finish for the Chamber of Horrors was the One Man Gang winding up in the electric chair and then becoming a preacher or something to that effect after the shock "curing" him of his insanity.

I see you're a victim of autocorrect. You meant "a lot more amazing".

This was also the year that Ric Flair got fired by a former Pizza Hut executive because he wouldn't agree to change his name to Spartacus, shave his head and wear a diamond earring.
'91 WCW could have been a LOT crazier.

It's weird, I could have sworn that Russo wasn't with WCW until 1999.

It's weird, I could have sworn that Russo wasn't with WCW until 1999. This is why I always felt it wasn't Russo's actual bad ideas that actually sunk his WCW run as much as it was his non-existent attention span, inability to take criticism and his insistence on having all the storylines revolve around himself.

I wish I had been watching WCW in 1991 but I stopped watching wrestling by Dec. 1989. Didn't start watching again until Feb. 1992's SNME. As such it is hard to truly comprehend WCW's shocking ineptitude in 1990-91. I would say from the time right after GAB 1990 up until the Dangerous Alliance storyline WCW was about as bad a promotion as the world has ever seen. I think the fact that they still had some guys who could have a great match here and there and some basic vestige of competence kept them from being like WCW in 2000.
Make no mistake, when I first got the Network the first stuff I watched was WCW from this era. First PPV I watched was the notorious GAB 1991. I suppose it was one of those "you had to be there" shows, since I didn't think it was jaw dropping in its awfulness really. Just a crappy PPV.
Lost in all of the Flair talk is this to consider: Flair needed to go. He had been in the NWA/WCW as champion on and off since 1981. He wasn't drawing on top at that point anyway, so why stay? The stupidity is that Herd didn't just order him to drop the belt to Luger at the Bash and then send him packing to the WWF. It was a preemptive death knell on Luger's title run and a major reason he too bolted in early 1992.
