I wonder what the hell this means: www.avclub.com/article/its-rumor-time-apple-working-theater-mode-iphones-247928I'll be perfectly honest: I've texted during a movie, but only when it was sparsely attended and there was nobody near me. I'd never inconvenience anybody by using my phone. So isn't the answer mostly to just turn your phone off or keep it in your pocket/purse if it will be a problem?

I get the point of the "If you can't stay away from your phone for a couple of hours, stay at home!" argument, but at the same time, I have watched movies in theaters that would have driven me insane if I didn't have my phone there to distract me. But even then, I don't get out my phone unless we're in a theater where there aren't any people sitting around us.

I think this is just Apple putting their spin on a dark mode version of things where things aren't as bright, distracting or hard on the eyes in place with low light. Not actually to be used in theaters but saying they can brag about having a theater mode over the rest having a dark mode.

I appreciate the intent, but I doubt it'd be much different than airplane mode unless it had some weird way of turning on automatically.

It's called the backrow during a matinee, I've gotten though a few terrible movies that way.

If you are in a theater with other people turn your phone off (keep it in your pocket)
I don't care how discreet you are with it.
It's distracting.

If the movie sucks or is boring I'm gonna keep myself entertained. If your attention on it so easily broken then you don't seem to enjoy it either.

Everyone else paid to be at the movie to and don't need you distracting them from it. If the movie sucks so bad leave. You don't know if the other people like the movie or not. Don't be a selfish prick and be considerate of others

If the movie sucks, perhaps you should leave then. Why inconvenience others because you're bored? I've been in movies before that I loved, but the minute a bright light shows up, you notice it.

I'd 100% support all theaters taking the Alamo Drafthouse approach, and if I lived near one I probably wouldn't go to any other theater chain.

If you are in a theater with other people turn your phone off (keep it in your pocket) I don't care how discreet you are with it. It's distracting. When I went to see "The Force Awakens" last winter, there was a guy two rows in front of me who felt it necessary to brazenly take out his cellphone and record the opening crawl of the movie. Fortunately, he put the phone away after that, because if his plan was to record the whole movie on his phone and annoy everyone sitting around and behind him, it was going to really detract from my enjoyment of the film. My general rule for cellphone etiquette at theaters is to put it on vibrate and keep it in my pocket, only to check it if there's an incoming text or call to ensure that it's not an emergency. And if it is, I'll take the call outside of the cinema. I'm not going to bother my fellow theatergoers by screwing around on my cellphone and if I don't like the movie or find it boring, I'm not about to start scrolling through Facebook or Twitter, because I know that would just irritate everyone around me. If the movie is that bad, I'll leave. I don't think the price of admission gives me carte blanche to do whatever I please in the cinema.
