I like living in Phoenix , 8 months of great weather, less stress , decent pay compared to living expenses . But dammit I miss NY with every fiber of my being . I shall return to my homeland one day

I live in "supposedly flat and corn filled Iowa" and I love the hell out of it. I have pristine trout streams 2 to 5 miles in every direction. 2 medium sized rivers within 10 miles full of walleye. A couple miles from the Mississippi. The land is all heavily wooded and full of bluffs and cliffs. Everybody that comes to visit me from my wifes family doesn't believe this area exists until I show them it for real. have all the fishing, world class hunting, outdoors activities I'd ever want. And I'm only about 2.5 hours from the heart of the twin cities, 3 hours from Ohare in Chicago. With within 90 minutes I can be in La Crosse, Madison, Iowa City. I never have to fight city issues, but I can easily visit them whenever I want. It's a strange combo of "middle of nowhere" and "middle of everything" It's like my own slice of northern Minnesota/Wisconsin but it's couple hundred miles farther south and the taxes are much lower. Here is the general regional areaWith the aerials on you can plainly see where the farmlands end and all the wilds begin. It becomes very apparent the elevation changes when you look at the roads. To the west, lots of straight ass roads in squares. Then as you go east they go all curvy bonkers.

Just a curious thought that popped in my head. I live in Newfoundland and while winters can be annoying, it has great spring, summer, fall weather, lovely clean environment, good people and plenty to do. NFLD is a great place. Everybody is so laid back and friendly. Like you said, the winters are hell, though. I dunno if I could ever live in Newfoundland (the pace is a little too slow for me), but I have family there and enjoy visiting.

No. See: Location. It's cold, all the white during the winter leads to depression. All the people would rather just avoid each other and go home. There's nothing really to do during the summer if you're not an outdoors type person.
Yet I stay because I know my way around and the traffic isn't so bad unlike other Cities.

I generally like Palm Springs outside of the summer, when it can reach 120 degrees. I can see myself living here for a couple more years, but eventually want to move back to the Bay Area. I like living in Phoenix , 8 months of great weather, less stress , decent pay compared to living expenses . But dammit I miss NY with every fiber of my being . I shall return to my homeland one day Those remaining four months? I feel your pain.
