After listening to something to wrestle with they brought up dibiase not being on the 1987 survivor series but didn't give a reason has anyone ever heard why he wasnt on the card he had debut a few months prior and would be in a huge angle leading up to wrestlemania shouldn't he have been in a match

In between the tag team match and the main event, they had a vignette showing how he spent Thanksgiving.

Maybe it was to maintain his presence by not being there - if he'd won a match it could have overshadowed the Savage/Honky or Hogan/Andre feuds.
The vignette looking back at him buying people off was a decent way to establish him further and create heat for him without seeing him get beaten up in the ring.

Had he begun doing the payoff segments with the audience? Maybe that would have been a good thing to do.

I guess it's difficult to find somewhere for him to logically fit on the card.
Obviously the Tag and Women's survivor Series is out, and you don't really want him on the Heel team facing Hogan in the main event. Engaging in physicality with Hogan is unlikely to make him want to help Dibiase buy the title.
The only place open to Dibiase was the mid-card opener, and with the faces going over, it might not have done Dibiase much good if he is getting elevated into a main event programme shortly afterwards.

Sometimes it's best for a character who is about to do something important to not wrestle on a show, but to instead have a non-wrestling role to establish him without him actually wrestling (and potentially losing).
