RAW is live from the SMOOTHIE KING CENTER in New Orleans tonight, and facing up to the ginormous College Football National Championship Game between Alabama and Clemson, the Red Brand looks to counter with two legends...
New Orleans was where the greatest streak in wrestling history (sorry Goldberg and WWE writer RD Evans...) came to an end in 2014, and tonight, The Undertaker is reported to return to the city that hosted his greatest defeat. The last time the Dead Man was on WWE television, he was on SmackDown Live threatening the Survivor Series team, more or less driving them to victory over RAW. Despite calling SmackDown his home, Taker is on RAW tonight - for what reason? And to promote his role in the new WWE Studios film "The Resurrection of Gavin Stone", The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels will be on the show as well. What role will both men play, and will it be Royal Rumble related?
The WWE App broke the news on Friday that Roman Reigns is set to defend the WWE United States Championship against Universal Champion Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho in a handicap match on tonight's show. While Jericho will be hung above the ring in a shark cage at the Royal Rumble when Owens defends the Universal Title against Reigns, tonight he's in the ring alongside Owens trying to take the US Title - the question is, who gets given the title if JeriKO win the match? Whoever gets the fall, or will it actually be shared, unlike the Universal Title? Or will Reigns plow through his two major adversaries?
At current count, 8 wrestlers have declared themselves for the Royal Rumble Match - 7 of them registered to RAW. Joining big rivals Brock Lesnar and Goldberg are Big E, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, Chris Jericho and Braun Strowman (Baron Corbin is SmackDown's sole entrant so far). Who else joins the fray tonight? And how will Strowman react after being taken down by Roman Reigns and Goldberg last week... and will Sami Zayn want another crack at Strowman?
Thanks to an intervention by Sasha Banks, Bayley secured her shot at the RAW Women's Championship at the Royal Rumble on last week's RAW. Nia Jax was set to put Bayley away, when The Boss returned to distract Jax, allowing Bayley to get the win and a chance to face Charlotte Flair for the title in San Antonio. What measures will Flair take to put Bayley down tonight, and what revenge will Jax seek against Banks?
Neville has continued his march towards The Outlandish Rich Swann and the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, earning a victory on last week's 205 Live against former champion TJ Perkins. The case towards getting a title match is stronger than ever, and surely a date will be agreed soon. Will that date be announced tonight? Also, Tajiri is back green misting people, Noam Dar is still seeking Alicia FOOOOOOOX, and Jack Gallagher still has his problems with Ariya Daivari. Who will we see in the Purple Ropes Division tonight?
All this, plus Tag Champs Cesaro and Sheamus, Enzo's continued problems with Rusev, and so much more, tonight from 8/7c on USA! And afterwards, head over to the WWE Network for a preview of this weekend's WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament!
