...but got one (or more) anyway.
The reason I'm thinking about this is because today is the 10th anniversary of the debut of the iPhone. As I was scrolling through Twitter and seeing all the pictures of Steve Jobs holding the original version of the iPhone back in 2007, it got me to thinking about how Steve Jobs had not one, but two biopics made about his life. And then I thought, "What was so interesting about Steve Jobs' life that it necessitated two full-length feature films?"
So who are some other subjects of biopics that made you wonder why people put so much time and energy into making movies about their lives?

Countless musician made for TV biopics fall into this category, but the Canadian one about Shania Twain (with none of her songs and not approved by her either) might be the example of wholly useless biographical films. Doubly so when Twain's life doesn't exactly have the outright drama that makes these films work anyway.

Steve Prefontaine.
Somehow managed to get two biopics at the same time about him.

Part of the problem with the first Jobs biopic is they tried to deify him... but one of the main things people agree with is that Steve Jobs was a pretty huge asshole.

Winner! I mean, A Beautiful Mind was fascinating. Walk the Line was heavy. JFK was a thing. But the inventor of a mop? Come on, man. And I agree that Steve Jobs was no Rudy or massive underdog. And speaking of Rudy...he was offsides. I also think Vince Papale didn't do anything special. And I hope plans to make a movie about the Oklahoma/Boise State bowl game was killed and burned. You want action and drama? You could, you know, actually watch the f***ing game.

Pee Wee Herman had 3 seperate biopics made about his life. Only the first one was really necessary

I will say tat he's absolutely a hero who saved a bunch of lives, but Sully pretty much proved that you can't stretch out 35 seconds of a man's life to 2 hours and make a great story out of it.

Controversial, but i can guarantee there would never have been a Biggie Smalls biopic if he hadnt gotten shot. Of course, you can be surprised by biopics at times, I was wondering what they could have done with that three stooges tv movie from many years back and it was actually a pretty good biopic.

Social Network...
David Fincher and Trent Reznor couldn't make that thing interesting.

The directing was great, Tom Hanks did such a phenomenal job that a couple times I had to do a double take. The problem was Sully is such a straight forward calm demeanor guy he didn't make the best protagonist. Had they touched on his younger days and losing his father to suicide (which most of his book is about) it might have been a different story. But by the time they play the crash for the second time I was ready to go.

It sort of became clear with what they focused on that this was about Clint Eastwood's political views more than it was about the subject's actual life.

Yeah, as much as I loved Sliver Linings Playbook and enjoyed American Hustle, I was watching Joy thinking the director only made the film to work with Jennifer Lawrence again.

"What was so interesting about Steve Jobs' life that it necessitated two full-length feature films?" Three full-length films if we count the made-for-tv "Pirates of Silicon Valley."

The posthumous ones didn't surprise me since he has been the status of god among men for quite a while, but Pirates... surprised me since it was a bit of a nerd story and either before or right when Jobs rejoined Apple, which was in a decline. Bush. Honestly. And that film just does not work. I loved Jobs but mainly cause of the directing z d Fassbender That's one problem of making a biopic of a recent politician nowadays in the US, half of the population thinks they are the worst thing since stepping on legos, the other half think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.
