It's my favorite NES Mario game. It's my favorite Mario game, period. It's also one of my favorite games of all time, regardless of what system it appeared on. (Same goes for Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.) I love the Adventures of Link. Despite it being wildly different than most Zelda games it was the foundation for a ton of stuff for future stuff in the Zelda series.

Zelda II would be infinitely more enjoyable if it didn't go from easy to impossibly difficult so quickly. I get it now, but when I was a 10 year old kid it was just frustrating

I played the Japanese SMB 2 and I did not like it. It is hard and basically the same game was SMB. The US SMB 2 is a lot better.

As a meme pic somewhere out there once said, "You can pick motherf***ers up and throw them at other motherf***ers." How could this NOT be peoples' favorite Mario game?!

I was a kid when it came out, so it's totally ingrained in me as a "Mario" game.

Forget Super Mario Bros. 2, what I want to know is if Super Mario Bros. Special for the NEC PC-8801 is considered a proper Mario game? How about Super Mario Family for the GBC? and yes of course SMB2 is a proper Mario game. Back then, we never cared if the gameplay was the same as long as the game was good and it added to the universe it got in. See also Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Or Turtles II on the NES. Not much like the original Turtles, but still the 'sequel'.

Yeah 2 was even subtitled the Arcade Game... with the Arcade Game with even bigger font than the Turtles Logo.

Oh I did not like Zelda II at all. If I tried it again I might like it more. Or I may hate it more. I have no idea. Adventures of Link is my favorite game ever.
