Honky Tonk Man acting like he's a big shot in a f***ing amusement park were people don't even know who he is. This is in the RF Shoot on the road with HTM. And then there's this... youtu.be/0PMUpU-niyIJimmy Valiant working in a high school gym in front of 20 people. The saddest thing is that this match happened last year. But the saddest sight is everytime Virgil leaves his house.

does jake roberts at Heroes of wrestling count Nothing compares to being there live with your 70+year old grandmother. Trying to explain to her what was up with Jake on the drive back was fun.

Heidenreich vs Alabama Doink. The Brawl at Golden Corral. Alabama Doink needs to be an actual gimmick. Oddly he is better in the ring when he is Fat Fake Doink than he is using the gimmick he uses more often.

That one guy came up with a HTM card to get signed. Sucks Jimmy worked in front of a small crowd. But from what I hear he mostly takes bookings to travel. He loves to travel.

Scott Steiner. Bloated, hideously muscular for a 54 year old man and covered head to toe in awful tattoos.

It wasn't an indy per se, but seeing Ax set up a table at the mall in Plattsburgh NY, with his tag team title, wearing the Demolition makeup and a pink cutoff workout sweatshirt with absolutely no one stopping by. I was the only one who went by to look at the belt, but didn't get any photos or anything because 1) I didn't have any money, and 2) I didn't care enough.

I went to a show where Sabu got in the ring during intermission and his handler said it would be $10 for a picture with him. The crowd was very small and you could hear people say, "Ten bucks! Pfft! I'd do five not ten!" Other fans could be heard agreeing. You could see Sabu telling his handler to take the $5. The handler said $5 and six people got in the ring after for pictures with him. It was sad, but that's independent wrestling sometimes. Melissa Coates, yes?

I don't recall what exactly the surgery was, but after Steiner had surgery on his chest, it left him unable to once again build it back up to the same level of muscularity as it was decades ago. The tattoos were mainly as a way to make the drastic change in his upper body less noticeable. For a bodybuilder, it must have made him incredibly self-conscious. During the time he was off the wrestling radar, he was shot while saving a woman from some sort of violent situation. It led to him becoming addicted to drugs and being unable to continue to stay in "wrestling shape."

After watching a video on Valiant's wrestling school a while back, the guy just seems to love wrestling and has fun doing it. He's not full anywhere close to full time, heck the video was almost a year ago, even though he's 74. I think it's a lot sadder seeing guys wrestle to feed a drug addiction, then people like Valiant and even Lawler, that just love doing it and don't mind if it's in a small arena. Heck, at least the crowd were into Valiant even though it pretty small.

Heck, at least the crowd were into Valiant even though it pretty small. 2 years ago on Labor Day weekend did commentary/video work for a show at a casino. Had Bill Dundee,Jerry Lawler and Jimmy Valiant on the card. Jimmy was so happy to just be there. Didn't matter if it was the security guys, the waiters/waitresses or the woman serving him at the buffet he was nice and took time to get a pic with anyone that asked.Plus I am sure the money is nice. He seemed to clean up at the gimmick table. His wife makes masks out of old t-shirts. That Valiant sells for $3 at shows. He sold out of 50 of them quick. And had almost no 8x10s or copies of his CD left before the meet and greet was over. And it isn't just something he turns on for the fans. He was exactly the same backstage. Cracking jokes and telling road stories. Back the weekend after Thanksgiving,2 of the guys I travel to shows with finally took Jimmy Valiant up on his offer and went to the Boogie Woogie Wrestling Camp. From the vids and pics I have seen they had a blast. Plus the younger of the two guys starts his wrestling training soon. Jimmy gave him his blessing to use the Valiant name. Just a sure nice and down to earth guy. But really out of all the guys I have managed to met and talk to over the past 6 years the only one that wasn't nice and pleasant was Masada.

Randy the Ram possibly died doing a top rope splash. It was open to interpretation.

I became personal friends with Jimmy and Angel Valiant in 2011. He is very inviting to people visiting his school and museum of pictures and ring used collectibles. He did attempt a retirement in 2004 but I don't think he will ever leave wrestling in general or wrestling matches.
He usually goes to the North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia area which is around his home base. He gets to see old friends, make some money on his photos, book, shirts and meet new people. He will talk to you and give you his time. He won't treat you like a dollar bill and move on to the next dollar bill when he knows you don't have the money to buy something. And he won't move quickly to the next person when he got your last dollar.
Glad to see the love for him on this site.

And he won't move quickly to the next person when he got your last dollar. Glad to see the love for him on this site. Exactly,I have been for the past 5 years bringing with me to every show copies of dvds of rare footage. Enough copies for everyone working the show. So when I met Mr Valiant I gave him the dvd. He kept offering to pay for it. "No sir it is free". And he ended up trading me a signed 8x10 for it. Part of the reason I went on that road trip was I doubted I would get many chances to meet Valiant. Since he is getting older and doesn't travel very far. But the best part of the show... it was Jimmy and Gary Valiant in a tag match. One of the guys on the other tag team had asked me before the show to make sure to video his match "I know with you the footage will be up quick."So instead of doing my normal commentary and stuff for Bodyslam Media I was filming for my own channel. I am all the way across the ballroom getting ready to film. I look towards where the Bodyslam camera is and I see Koby, head of Bodyslam ,flailing his arms around like windmills. Think nothing of it and started filming. After that match I go back over. Seems before the man a friend of ours told Jimmy "See that blonde kid out there filming? On your way to the ring give him the Boogie Woogie Kiss" So as Jimmy came out he grabbed Koby kissed him dead on the lips. And that is why Koby was windmilling his arms. And sure Jimmy is very limited in the ring now. But he still put on a great show. Sorry for how dark it looks. The way the lighting is set up in the ballroom makes it hard for me to get decent looking footage.

This has turned into a really cool thread. I love hearing positive stories like these Valiant ones. I have nothing to add here, but it's been a pleasure to read.

Only people that dislike Valiant are the hooker on the glass table and Ricky Morton. Just kidding.
I found the video of Greg Valentine wrestling a backyard fed, but it won't play on my phone, it's on veoh.
I wonder how the guys feel when going from working the super dome to working high school gyms.
