Dunkirk is projected to be number 1 now for what it's worth Yeah like how Spider-Man completely fell off after one week despite all the critical praise a movie could ask for. Fell off? It's still top 5 for the week Four weeks out... that's not falling off at all. 63% drop on the second weekend is what I'm talking about. That's a steep dip for a big movie so praised.

It's not that much more from typical for a summer blockbuster. You expect big drops this time of the year with movies like that.

That's really not at all a terrible drop for as much of an opening as it was. It really only that big a deal if you compare it to the extremely impressive holds Wonder Woman was doing and that had a much weaker opening so not really one to one there. And I say that when I hated Homecoming.

Midnight Screenings in an almost empty theater!
I mean kids movie... but apparently the one 5 year old there seemed to hate it too...

It came in at #2 for the weekend with $25 million. Probably about the best they could reasonably expect for the opening, and kind of about what I was figuring on, but next week I figure it's going to take a massive drop.

if this video is right the Emoji Movie and Popeye were not in development at the same time so no it didn't cause them to pass on Popeye...
That said you can probably guess who is responsible for Popeye stalling and Genndy leaving.

Yeah, it's been public knowledge for a long time that Popeye was put into developmental hell by Sony long before the Emoji Movie was even an idea that they even knew about, much less a fully funded production.
But people wanna believe what people wanna believe.
Amy Pascal is a total putz though.

So on IMDB, this movie has a score of 1.6 out of ten. That seems harsh even though I haven't seen the movie and don't really plan to. That's like Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas or Birdemic levels of low ratings. It just, can't really be THAT bad.
