One of my least favorite Kubrick films and it seems like a missed opportunity. Shame as Kubrick is one of my favorite directors. Oh well, at least the set designs were nice.

What about it would you consider a missed opportunity? For Kubrick to go out with a strong film. As great as he was it took 12 years between this and Full Metal Jacket. At least something was produced from it. I know he was simultaneously developing what became AI. I may have preferred if he focused on that one instead.

I love Kubrick but yeah, this film was just a mess. I saw it a couple of times back in the day and my minds still forgotten most of it.
I mainly remember all the hype. Boy was it hyped up because of Kubrick, Cruise/Kidman among other things. The commercials were done very well too, gave it an eerie vibe.

The only enjoyment I ever got out of the film was when Jerry Lawler roasted it on commentary the Monday after it came out.
"Hey J.R., so I went and saw that new movie Eyes Wide Shut this weekend."
"And how was it?"
"The only way to watch it is WITH your eyes shut. It sucked!"

I love that Brad Jones described it as, paraphrasing: "Tom Cruise tries and fails to get laid, crazy shit ensues"

Great movie actually one of my favorite Kubrick films but I feel like it's a incomplete film. Like Kubrick died 5 days after showing the initial screening and apparently they mysteriously cut out the f***ed up thing Tom Cruise saw in the room which was alluded throughout the film. Plus they added in a musical score during the orgy in which Kubrick didn't want apparently. Also Kubrick is even more notorious than George Lucas in re editing his films including he would sometimes re edit films when they are still in theaters. So you wonder was this his really vision and what was cut out?
But the illuminati and Hollywood Pedo Sex Ring murdering Kubrick who was coming on too close to them conspiracy theories are more entertaining than the movie.

Always loved the dreamlike quality to the movie, might be the best ethereal feeling films ever. Story's a bit of a mess and that damn piano song ends up being unintentionally funny rather than haunting, but still always makes for a interesting experience watching it.
