And if so how did you make the most out of the space you had? I just leased a small studio within walking distance from my work. I have about 304 square feet to work with, so I'm looking for ideas

I lived in one that was 320 sq ft. I got some really cool divider screens from Goodwill and sectioned it off kinda.

I lived in a studio apartment that was barely large enough to fit the bed and small desk that the apartment came furnished with. Those were the only things I really required out of an apartment, and I accepted the place because it was cheap and very close to where I worked. I missed having a refrigerator, but I made a habit of only buying small quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables that I could eat within a day of purchase.
Because there was no stove, I bought an electric hot plate cooker and a wok, and stir-fried eggs with vegetables when I wanted to have filling meals.
Until a jerk moved into the building and made a habit of smoking in the stairwell outside my door, I didn't regret living in my apartment. In fact, I wish it was easier to find places like that one, as I don't like paying extra for a lot of space that I don't need.

Man, you guys' places sound like palaces compared to my studio (except eDemento's). mine is 22 square metres (about 72 feet). Can't complain much though, it's really well located and on the first floor. Anyway, you definitely want at least one closet. That way if you have leftover space, you can even use it to store items. I assume you have at least one table/desk, so store as much as you can under there so it doesn't take up space elsewhere. Obviously, especially put stuff you might want within arm's reach so you make it a "work space". Also, shelves are a really nice thing to have as that's another thing that allows you to store a lot without taking up much place, plus it's aesthetically pleasing. From what you've told us, it seems you live alone there so a small fridge and a small freezer should be more than enough and take up half as much space as if you got full-sized ones. And be much cheaper as well. In general, make sure to make your furniture as efficient as possible: big enough to store as much stuff as possible but small and light enough that it doesn't take up much surface and is easy to move. If you wanna know how Ikea got so popular, it's because they've got a lot of stuff like that.

I did. It was one of the most depressing things I ever had to go through. There's something very unsettling on sleeping on a futon when your kitchen is right there.
I guess it could have been worse, I could have been in one of those places where your toilet also doubles as your shower. :/

I lived in one for a year. Best advice I can give is put the bed in the furthest corner from the door, and put the couch as close to the door as possible. Then put the tv in the middle wall so you can watch it from either your bed or the couch.

We currently live in one. I don't know the measurements, but ours came fully furnished with a bed that can go into the wall so that saves room.

Lived in one in college, but it wasn't a box or anything. It had its own kitchen and bathroom, room for a dresser, tv, and bed, and had a built in wall desk that I never used.

I do right now. aside from running out of places to put books, it's delightful.

I've spent the gross majority of the my adult life in them. I prefer them.
