Ever find anything yummy there? Bonus points if it's something unique or unusual. Lately, I've been in the habit of stopping by different ones for breakfast. Usually, at the Hannafords near where I work or at the Shaw's by where I live. I started out with just getting chocolate chip muffins, but lately I've just been getting whatever looks yummy. Or donut holes. Those are always good Sure, not the healthiest thing, but everyone needs a treat now and then. I definitely don't do it every day, but once or twice a week isn't too bad.

I work at a grocery store and our bakery is pretty good. I get apple turnovers from there a lot and they have some good bread. They have this whole clove garlic bread which is amazing, has garlic baked in it and it is so good toasted in the oven with a little olive oil and butter.

nothing really unique or unusual there... but I have never had a bad experience with my local grocery stores bakery.

My mom bought me a chocolate bomb cake from ShopRite, for one of my birthdays. It was delicious!! I also get pretzel bagels there, sometimes.

Some of the best donuts in the area come from our local Kroger.

Shop Rite's got some pretty good bagels and donuts, particularly the cereal topped donuts they have. Not bad for a grocery bakery.
They all pale in comparison to Wegman's though.

It's quite common to find Brigadeiro cake (basically a version of the chocolate truffle cake with chocolate sprinkles) in grocery stores around here. All of them are indulgently delicious. Also, some of the best croissants I've eaten are from grocery stores in Guimarães (which are a bit different from regular croissants you find in Portugal and are one of the city's delicacies. They're made with brioche-like dough, are smaller and have more jelly covering than usual). Most of the others are from bakeries in the same city

Publix got a pretty solid bakery. I like their cookies. Being an employee of Publix and having worked in the bakery (albeit the closing shifts)...you're right.

Costco cake is great cake.
Mariano's (a Chicago grocery chain) has a top notch bakery section.

Yeah if you're fortunate enough to live near a Wegmans, you will know why nowhere else really compares. We went to a Loblaws when we were in Toronto a few years ago, that was similar but the bakery section was not too impressive. And as for the donuts topped with cereal, Tops has a very strange donut with generic Froot Loops. Never quite seen a donut like that. But their croissant donuts are awesome.

They're delicious, but if you want them at peak freshness, get them at 6:30am. I once worked in the bakery section on loan from the deli to help them catch up on orders. One girl misread the directions for cake batter and blew up the mixer. There was batter on the ceiling tiles. When I came home from that shift, I was my dog's best friend for hours.

Some of the best donuts in the area come from our local Kroger. I can back back that up. But I had to move and now I'm no where near a Kroger's. My life is incomplete.

Hannaford! Awesome cakes and chocolate bombs. If you call ahead or are willing to wait, they make this amazing light yellow cake with whipped cream frosting and sliced fruit.
Price Chopper makes delicious mini-pies and strawberry muffins. Stay away from the cakes if you can help it, as well as their seasoned meats, much of their pre-made stuff, and their sandwich shop. My mother used to work for them, I've heard some pretty nasty stuff about what goes on there.

Some of the best donuts in the area come from our local Kroger. I mess with their baked goods along from stuff from the deli. I also went to the bakery that's ran by the local cooking school. The potato struzzel(sp?) and dark chocolate cookie I got were very tasty.

Cardenas, a Hispanic grocery store chain here in Southern California has the best Mexican sweet bread anywhere....best when you get it fresh from their bakers.

I'm surprised to hear people saying Kroger's donuts are considered great since they don't even bake them there. They ship them in frozen and thaw them out.
