IMO , Elvis shoulde've gotten a new manager circa 1965.... I think he was cruel , to hell with Presleys health as long as the $$$ came in "The only thing of importance is that he is on stage tonite , nothing else matters" (Parker , 1977)

I think he was cruel , to hell with Presleys health as long as the $$$ came in "The only thing of importance is that he is on stage tonite , nothing else matters" (Parker , 1977) Man, Elvis really did deserve a lot better. The prime time to dump Parker would have been probably 1973. Elvis had just come off the Aloha special, and Parker had him booked back in Las Vegas for a month barely before the dust had settled on the show. Elvis is perhaps one of, if not the most mismanaged artist in history. It's really terrible, that quote too. I believe it was before a show Elvis did in Philly, May 28, 1977. Bruce Springsteen was there that night. When asked about it, he said, "It was not a good night." If anything, the downfall of Elvis in his later life should be used as a cautionary tale. Thankfully, there's many, many, many career highs that we can enjoy from Elvis' career. Unfortunately, the "fat Elvis" thing still lives on. Anyone smart enough should recognize that was only in the last 2 years of his life, and not to judge his image or musical output based on that.

His career really was in trouble 1965-68 , he should've been more selective re : movie scripts. Also he was ripped off in '73 , should've gotten more for his pre-1973 record deal. Both in the 60s & 70s he didn't think long term , quick cash in hand , let Parker handle the biz/line up films , the films were money makers at least until 1965..... -should've toured the world already in 1960. -prolly should've done A star is born even though he might've been skeptic about it -should've done Egypt (Parker turned down 10 mill !) Unfortunately , in the 70s there would be no comeback special to save him and just like the 60s he ran the formula into the ground
