I'm planning a trip to New Year next month and was wondering if it's worth a winter trip. I'm Scandinavian so I've grown up with arctic winters with plenty of cold and wind and tons of snow so that's not a deterrent. Only thing I hate is rain following snow so you'll walk around in wet slop.

If snow and cold isn't going to bother you, then definitely go.
It's not even a guarantee of either in Feb.

Wind is the only thing that time of year in NYC, so just pack a hoodie and/or scarf (even if you're not a scarf person, they help tremendously in NYC) and you're good.
Will you be there for Valentine's Day or the weekend of the Super Bowl? There's usually cool NYC things going on then.

If you're going to the city, cold shouldn't be that much an issue, NYC always is warmer than the majority of the state.

I'm finally all set. Cheap plane ticket towards the end of the month and the beginning of the new. Have a great room in lower Manhattan. Thought I might start out with visiting buildings beginning at Battery Park and working my way inland. Foremost interested in One World Trade Center, Rockefeller Center, Trump Tower, Chrysler Building and Empire State Building. Not sure which order is best to save time.
I know I'll go to Planet Hollywood for the t-shirt and eventually have a very light breakfast at the Plaza Hotel.
Will probably set aside a day to wander the length of 5th Avenue. Though I'll probably need to do the shopping somewhere cheaper.
Will set aside a day for visiting Central Park and decide there how long I wanna stay.
I'm hoping for tackling an eating challenge someplace.
Any highly recommended eating establishment for more regular meals?
Are there travel cards you can use on the subway to avoid two bucks for every ride?
Will definitely take Staten Island Ferry ride.
Visit the large green lady of course.
Gonna check out the Queens, Harlem etc. if I find the time.
Don't party so that'll save some time.
Went to LA once and had such a great experience with pleasant, helpful people and are hoping for the same now.
Hope my legs can hold up.

I'm going there in a couple of weeks.
I have to buy a lot of clothing items made out of windbreaker.

NYC is great to visit in the winter. Lots of indoor activities to do like shopping, visiting museums, etc. Just bundle up for the wind. The cold is one thing, but all those skyscrapers make it windier than is typical.
Also, the security barrier around Trump Tower has eased up a bit in recent weeks. Granted, I can't think of any real touristy or interesting thing around that part of 5th Avenue anyway. At worst, it's a travel inconvenience to pass through to other places. And easy enough to cut over to 6th or 4th avenue on the giant grid of streets that is Manhattan.
