M. Night: "So, now will you forgive me?"
Yes, yes we do.
Shymalan seems to have his groove back in this one. It's January, but I've got this one already on my own shortlist for a Director, Screenplay, Best Actor nom for the coming year.
I'd encourage anyone to spoiler tag some of the meatier discussion for those who might take a while to get to see it. There still is enough that can be criticized, but this was--for me--enough of the kind of Shymalan that I dig.
A really great take on a trope we've seen handled one too many times. It was a terrific auteurish angle that just works. Lots of layers here instead of the obvious "look at me" shock effects that this particular topic tends to go for in film.

Loved this film! Terrific cast and had some absolutely unsettling moments. Even the intentional humor landed well and added to the tension. The twist even turned out well and made me want to rewatch it.

I have to agree. M. Night really knocked it out of the park with this one. And James McAvoy damn well better get an Oscar nomination for his performance

{Spoiler}I hope he pulls the trigger and actually does a film with Dunn, Mr. Glass, and The Horde confronting each other.

It's a good movie but he still has way more terrible shit in his catalog than even decent.

That movie was insane. I loved it.

It's getting released on February 22nd here and I can't wait. The trailers made it look really cool and it's getting a lot of positive reviews, including from reviewers whose opinion I usually share. I love how Brad Jones said "with this movie, Shyamalan pulled off his biggest twist yet: a good horror movie in January!".

too early to say "he's back" but credit where it's due, Shyamalan finally made another good movie.

too early to say "he's back" but credit where it's due, Shyamalan finally made another good movie. He actually started the climb out of the basement with The Visit. He seems to have rediscovered his film-making gifts by making solid little thrillers instead of trying to force himself as the next Hitchcock.

Kinda strange to see almost unanimous support for it. I have a few friends that went and saw it and amongst them it's been a unanimous "this movie totally sucks".

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}I hope he pulls the trigger and actually does a film with Dunn, Mr. Glass, and The Horde confronting each other. That's his plan, apparently. Can't wait personally.

Some of it worked, some of it could have stayed on the editing room floor. But McAvoy is brilliant, and... {Spoiler}Liked Bruce Willis stopping in.

I don't like "multiple personality" gimmicks, but M. Night does seem to be bouncing back after The Visit got him positive buzz again, and James McAvoy is a solid actor.

McAvoy is the man. He's honestly the only reason why I enjoyed this movie.
