There are actually a few 3DS games I'd like to play but I really can't afford to buy one at the moment. Even second-hand ones go for about 110 euros, which is too much for me, but I've seen the prices of 2DS's and they seem far more affordable to me so I was curious if there are any differences beyond the lack of 3D (which I don't really care about)? Most importantly, are there games that, for whatever reasons, aren't compatible?

Aside from the 3D, the inability to have the Circle Pad Pro or to close case the console, they are basically the same. All regular 3DS games can be played on the 2DS. The New 3DS ones can't, though, so no Xenoblade Chronicles 3D for Fire Emblem Warriors for you!

2DS is pretty good, it has, if I recall, a slight boost in battery life over the regular 3DS, and that's convenient, though it has some downsides, as Fundertaker pointed out.

Anyway, I don't think that's too big a deal? Pretty sure all the game I plan on getting are regular ones. You know what? I'll just put a list here: - Fire Emblem: Awakening - Pokémon Moon/Sun - Phoenix Wright: Spirit of Justice - Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies - Mario Kart 7

It's funny, I actually did buy a 2DS just the other day and I think it's great. The shape is different, but it's a lot easier to hold and doesn't feel cramped the way the 3DS can at times. If 3D's a necessity for you, I wouldn't get one, but I love mine.

Honestly, there are some good RPGs which I know you like. Also, you have the whole regular DS library to grab from if you are so inclined.

If 3D's a necessity for you, I wouldn't get one, but I love mine. Yeah, I don't care about the 3D. I did try it in a store once and while it was neat and I was impressed with how well it actually worked, it's really no more than a gimmick and from what I hear, it's a battery guzzler as well. As long as the games are good, I can do away with it. Swear to God, Nintendo's getting worse than Apple when it comes to releasing new hardware. Anyway, I don't think that's too big a deal? Don't you diss Fire Emblem and Phoenix Wright under my watch, son! But seriously, I'm sure there are more games I saw that I'd like but those are the ones I could think of off the top of my head. And yeah, there are some regular DS games I'd like to get as well. I think I will get it. There's a store almost literally next door to my building that sells some bundled with Mario Kart 7 for 100€ and considering MK7 itself costs about 45€, that seems like a real good deal.

Yeah, sounds like you'd be well served by it. I recommend Bravely Default, by the way, if you like old school RPGs, but lots of people would recommend that. Legend of Legacy's interesting, for an unusual suggestion.

Oh yeah, I did hear a lot of good about that one, with people comparing it to old-school Final Fantasy games (which makes it all the more confusing why SE is avoiding this sort of gameplay like the plague for the actual Final Fantasy series now). So yeah, definitely getting it. Thanks for your input, everyone! I was still a bit on the fence but you guys tipped me over.

My main problem is it feels way too light and not sturdy. Regular 3DS' just feel better in your hand.

Yeah, though for what it's worth, Square supposedly was very impressed with Bravely Default's sales, after they weren't even going to give it a Western release. Nintendo did, got behind it solidly, and made a killing, so they did definitely get an awakening.

Yeah apparently it took Bravely Default selling well in the West for Square Enix to finally realize that their games were popular in the West.

The 3D is a bit over rated. I honestly dont notice it.
Luigis Mansion 2 is a fun game which I enjoy. Its not very hard though.
A game I bought with the system was Animal Crossing New Leaf, which I hated at first but grew to love it.
Also Fantasy Life is a great game which I really do recommend as its loads of fun.
Oddly I didnt like Majoras Mask. Something just feels wrong with it. Dont know why.
And I also own Bravely Default. Its boring, has large difficulty spikes to get you to purchase power ups and has an over powered and broken brave mode. I honestly didnt get too far into it before i put it down.
And finally Pokemon Y was a far better game than Pokemon Moon which is lacking in every way.

If 3D isn't what you care for and you just want a cheap 3DS, then it's definitely not a bad idea.

I disagree on a lot of this, but I will say that Fantasy Life is fun, though I may like Rune Factory 4 more, which has some major similarities. Still, they are different enough games to where I am happy to own both.
