I highly recommending checking out GRRMs other work if you like ASIOF. Aside from the other ASIOF stories like the Dunk and Egg novellas, there is some really great stuff spanning multiple genres in Dreamsongs I and II, which are collections of his short stories and other works. I especially love his sci fi stuff, the "Thousand Worlds" universe, very loosely connected sci fi stories. I'll second this... I've made it my goal over the years to collect a lot of his early stuff, and the hits tend be more frequent than the misses. If you can get a copy, Portraits of His Children has some great tales, as does the Sandkings collection. Although a bit preachy, Tuf Voyaging is a lot of fun (and certainly relevant to some of the issues we're facing ecologically). I had students analyze "The Second Kind of Loneliness" in my American literature class a few years ago and this year my Grade 10 students dissected passages from A Game of Thrones on their exam. If I have time, I'll take a snapshot of my GRRM shelves at home and will post it here.

I'm forgiving on him taking a long time to finish books.
