I have always loved watching wrestling (WWE, New Japan, ROH, etc.), but never really considered it as a potential career until recently (my background is in theatre and film). After attending my friend Chris Calloway's match, I realized that what I want more than anything is to be inside that ring myself. I'm thinking of paying the $1500 for lessons at Chris' school, Tampa Bay Pro Wrestling (this is Jay Lethal's school, and he is the head trainer). Have any of you taken wrestling classes, and do you have any recommendations? I am a 27 year-old female. Favorite women are: Asuka, Paige, AJ Lee, Becky Lynch, and Lita.

Joel Redman/Oliver Grey used to run a wrestling school before he was signed to NXT. Took enough classes to learn the basics, but at the time my finances were in the dirt and those classes were the first to go when I had to trim the fat from my monthly expenses.

I've never wanted to be a wrestler. I want to be a booker/writer.

When I was younger I wanted to be, but given the landscape, I would never want to be.

I love watching the WWE, but I don't honestly trust them not to give me a gimmick I don't want, so I would probably aim for ROH, New Japan, etc.

I was "trained" how to fall and sell by Ox Baker when I was dating one of his relatives.
I still do it to this day when I'm messing around with my nieces and nephews. Invaluable skill at family get-togethers. It also made my portrayal of the Anvil Salesmen in The Music Man a lot more memorable because I went down like I took a shotgun to the chest when I got punched.

I've never wanted to be a wrestler. I want to be a booker/writer. I am the same way, except I wanted to be one when I first got into it. But then I thought about the physical toll it takes on people. If I were in the business, I would rather be a booker and/or involved in PR.

Almost did, but chickened out.
Backyard wrestled for a few years mainly from 2000-2004, and learned some stuff from the guys who were both backyard wrestlers and trained wrestlers. At least 6 of the guys I backyard wrestled are still wrestling on the indies.

I've always wanted to be a manager and strictly manager only but that's gone the way of the dodo for the most part unfortunately. Would mind trying my hand at booking as well, I love the creative aspect of the storylines. I think I'm too interested in long-term booking for anything like WWE though.

I am a 4th year/term graduate of Rougeau Gym and wrestled for 12 years.
Nothwithstanding it's really far away, Jacques wouldn't train you, you're a girl. Even if you were a boy, I wouldn't recommand it because you're Asian, he'd make you super stereotypical.
You live in the right area, other than the Tri-State and South California areas, Florida is pretty much where it's at, and you're close to WWE's scouts. You could work close to home.
If I would advise you, I'd tell you to take a look at who the school you choose trained in the past and if the trainer that trained them is still around and still hands on with the training. Ask around. Focus on a school that will teach you good basics (footing, basic bumps, running the ropes, basic sequences...) over just teaching spots. You want the good basics, it will help you find work and make it a lot easier for you to reinvent yourself: it's better to build a house well on good foundations than to put nice windows on a house that's all f***ed up, sure the windows are nice but the rest is falling apart.

I may have met him/her at the recent wrestling promotion I attended, which featured several of Jay's students, including my friend Chris Calloway from The Renagades and Hunter Law.

I wanted to for awhile, but I really couldn't afford the classes. Plus I would have had to move and I didn't want to do that at the time.
About 8 years ago, I did look into getting trained by a local guy to be a referee. It didn't really pan out. The guy was supposed to meet before the show and then just disappeared.

I think he goes by "Chango Fuego" Ian Allen. That's what his FB page for his gimmick goes by but I'm waiting to get a text back to make sure I have it right. If you saw some guy walking around in a luchador mask with a bunch of bananas, that would be him.

I never wanted to be a wrestler but when I turned 16 my dad's buddy had a friend who was a local wrestler and he had a " School".He offered me and a couple of my friends a free day of training so we took him up on it we soon realized that this guy was the dirt worst wrestler and a scumbag in general. His ring has terrible,I had a better working punch and ran the ropes better than this professional,Bumping sucked(probably due to the terrible ring)and I was over it.He offered to train us 2 nights a week for $3,000 we declined so he gave us a special price cause we knew his friend of $2,850 we left quickly.

Yep, once. I learned to bump and knocked the wind out of myself on the first try, run the ropes and stumbled and necked myself on the bottom rope during the last sprint, sparred with one of the trainers and got wrecked in about five seconds, and capped it off with taking a bare-chested chop from all five trainers.
After that I decided I was better off just being a fan.

Yep - wrestled for 6 and a half years before I retired due to backstage ego's and what not. When I first started training we trained and bumped in a hard as hell boxing ring that has no give. First bump I took in that knocked me a bit loopy. But you certainly pay your dues bumping and taking moves in that and appreciate it more when you actually bump in a wrestling ring. Just make sure you bump in the middle where all the give is.
At my size (5'2, 160 pounds) I struggled for about 3 years. I was rarely getting bookings. Generic masked lucha guy was probably why. Then I found my crazy masked character Headcase -everything started clicking. Found myself getting regular bookings, coming up with tons of creative babyface comedy spots (like when the Hardy's used to do the Poetry in Motion, I would pump the crowd up before I went for the jumping kick, then as I ran, i'd purposefully trip over my partner and nut shot the guy in the corner with my head by accident. First time I did that people were literally crying with laughter. People wanted me to do it again in different towns because of the reaction to the first time but I said you can't do a spot like that more than once).
I'd suggest finding a school that's actually serious about training you, will help you find bookings and won't just take your money.
