A terrorist wielding a pair of machetes attacked a group of soldiers who were posted at the Carrousel du Louvre (an underground shopping mall and exhibit area next to the famous museum) as part of Opération Sentinelle. Thankfully, only one soldier suffered a minor injury and they were able to stop the attacker (who is severely wounded) and authorities are now trying to figure out if he was following orders from Daech, if he was acting on his own and if he had accomplices.
So yeah, I thought it'd be nice to share of a story or a tragedy being avoided for a change.

Attacking a museum with two machetes sounds pretty cool honestly.

When the attacker fell, he landed in the pose of the Vitruvian Man.
Something isn't right. Someone call Professor Robert Langdon.

Thankfully, it was handled quickly, and not many people were hurt

So the attacker's condition got worse today but before that, he was able to talk. He claims to have acted on his own, which I actually tend to believe as Daech doesn't tend to deny its involvement. The rest of what he's saying though is, to put it mildly, laughable. He claims to be a pacifist and that he only wanted to slash paintings to hurt tourism and the French economy out of revenge for the Syrian victims of the coalition. He also claims that he bought the machetes to defend himself should the soldiers attack him.
Which is of course why he immediately pulled out the machetes and went for the soldiers without even trying to destroy the works. And of course, how else are you going to ruin paintings but with machetes? Couldn't possibly do that with a knife, a cutter, a pair of scissors or even some spray paint.

Attacking a museum with two machetes sounds pretty cool honestly. I doubt the terrified people who were caught up in the incident thought it was cool.

Just saying it sounds like an action movie. Action movie scenarios are cool in action movies. Action movie scenarios in real life are about the furthest thing from cool I can think of. Neo and Trinity shooting up the lobby and roof of a government building and then crashing a helicopter into the side of an adjacent building in The Matrix? That's cool. Someone does that in real life? Not cool in the slightest.

Just saying it sounds like an action movie. I understand what you are getting at, in fiction it would be good idea. However France, and Europe in particular has had quite a few terrorist attacks in the past few years. That wound it still to fresh to many people.

When police examined the attacker, he had a tattoo of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling on his back.
Something is afoot.

So is this like Paris's answer to the World's Worst Terrorists that tried bombing New York a few months ago?
