Well this went over fairly well for the Rumble so I thought I'd do it again for Wrestlemania. This one will take longer since I'm not watching just the main event.
Wrestlemania 1
The intro just isn't the same without Vince announcing the matches. The Coliseum version is the definitive version for me. Not "Easy Lover"
Mike Rotunda's profile is very odd looking to me.
Andre's photo looks like someone drew hair on him with a Sharpie
Moolah and Leilani Kai look like the cover of a KISS album
I miss the old school MSG microphone.
Mean Gene totally looks out of place singing the Star Spangled Banner. Has it ever been revealed who was supposed to sing and pulled out.
So many balding white dudes in the crowd
Jesse Ventura calling Gorilla "Gino" always confused me as a kid. I thought he was calling him "Gene O" and confusing him for Okerlund. I wonder if that was the reason he stopped calling him that.
The Executioner just standing off to the side listening to Tito talk crap about him is funny to me.
Buddy Rose had been in the company for several months at this point and losing regularly. I wonder why they decided to put him under a hood instead of just having him wrestle as himself.
It took me roughly 25 years to notice that Santana's trunks had the sombrero on them. I always thought that was something that started with Strike Force. I always wondered how much extra it cost for trunks with something that small printed on them.
Jesse hasn't really said anything heelish yet that I've noticed.
Listening to SD Jones talk makes me realize why they cut out most of these interviews on the Coliseum video version.
On Bundy's shoot video he claims that the match was supposed to end much quicker but SD purposely ran off the ropes instead of at him. Seems kinda shitty if true.
I read in an old Observer that Steamboat was originally going to face Don Muraco at this show. I guess they didn't want either man to lose and having too many non-finishes at a televised show would have been a tad shitty. Still I think they could have snuck in another squash type match for Muraco to re-introduce him.
Monsoon mentions that Steamboat and Snuka had been teaming as the South Pacific Connection. That sounds like something he made up on the spot.
It's amazing how quick they go through everything. Johnny V and Beefcake are heading to the ring before Matt Borne even makes it to the backstage area.
I still think Brutus deserves a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. Bundy too for that matter.
David vs. Beefcake is dreadfully boring and just a way to get to the Father/Son vs. Wrestler/Manager return match later on
Howard Finkel says both "teams" were disqualified. Oops.
It's kind of a shame that Valentine and Santana were in the middle of a long feud where the obvious outcome was Santana regaining the IC title because if anyone deserved a title win, it was JYD at this point. Guy was clearly the #3 babyface in the company at this point.
The guy who escorts people down the aisle at MSG always reminded me of Willie Tanner from ALF for some reason.
Tito Santana gets the decision of the IC title match reversed. Why did no one do this for the tag champs later? No wonder Windham and Rotunda left.
Sheik always called Gene "Gene Mean" Maybe they should have told Sheik that his name was "Gene Mean" so he would say it correctly by accident
Albano doing his interview with what looks like a beer in his hand. I could be wrong though.
The blue stripe on Volkoff's trunks is another thing it took me years to notice
Albano does nothing to try and save the titles but this was basically negated a few months later when the US Express won the titles back
Alfred Hayes: "John Studd says I am the true champion....giant. Andre says I am the giant." So awkward sounding.
I always wondered how much money was really in the little bag.
I kind of wish someone would edit these old Wrestlemanias and put entrance music over every wrestler's entrance. But then again I think I'm the only one who would find that funny.
Andre and John hug each other and then the match is over
Mean Gene very concerned over the ladies taking it too far
So much outside interference in the Wendi/Leilani match that Leilani should have never lost the belt
Fink so used to announcing Moolah as champion that he calls Wendi "The.....Wendi Richter"
It's amazing that Billy Martin didn't wind up slugging Fink.
Liberace's entire entrance and any mention of the Rockettes was removed from the Coliseum release. Guess they were really tight for time.
How Ali hasn't already been a celebrity induction into the WWE Hall of Fame is beyond me
I always wondered if the main event was supposed a six-man tag until Orton got hurt
I always thought Orndorff had a kendo stick at the beginning until I finally saw that it was a broom
Imagine if the match had ended with the heels getting counted out lol
Hulk Hogan says "Watch my titties dance" and the show comes to a close
Hogan, T, Snuka, Ali, Liberace, Billy Martin and Pat Patterson. The nWo could have been born this day.
