Seven time Grammy winner and the only artist to win a Grammy in the categories of Jazz, R&B and Pop passed away today at 76. He was also of course known for the theme to the tv show "Moonlighting" www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-et-ms-al-jarreau-dead-20170212-story.htmlAl Jarreau was always a favorite in my house when I was growing up. As a really young kid I knew every word to every song on his self titled album, and the first two concerts I ever attended were Al Jarreau concerts. The 1st concert was when I was around 7 or 8 and I decided that as a big fan I wanted to take something to give to Al Jarreau. We stopped at a local candy shop before the concert and they just happened to have some chocolate in the shape of a record. So during the concert while Al Jarreau was doing some crowd work my mom got me close enough that I was able to pass my gift up to the stage. He thanked the lady who passed it to him and she told him that I was that the gift was actually from me. Al Jarreau invited my up on stage and talked to me for a bit, he even gave me the mic so I could do a little crowd work while he opened the chocolate and ate some. Afterward he gave my mom , grandma and I backstage passes so we could hang out with him after the show. Even though I was really young the whole experience is just something I could never forget. How gracious he was and just how cool he was. I know what I'll be listening to all this week.

Aw f***. I loved Moonlighting as a kid and the theme tune was all kinds of awesome. I know his career was much more noteworthy than a theme tune but it's what I know him best for. RIP.

Sung by Al Jarreau for the cartoon movie 'The Magic Voyage' with a fitting title "Heaven Is"

I'll remember him as the musical guest on the SCTV 3CP1 Soviet TV signal intrusion episode.

My dad was a huge fan of his back in the day. The only reason I even know who he is was from all the albums he used to have and play when I was a kid. When I heard this yesterday, I called him right up to break the news. RIP Al. (Sidenote - he wasn't as crushed by the news as I'd have thought; reason being he's apparently been to 4 wakes in the last week and a half, and it seems he's sadly gotten used to these grim things of late... )
