I'm sure we've all heard the legendary story that when the Four Horsemen broke Dusty Rhodes's arm, hundreds of WCW 'rasslin fans called the cops and informed them of the attack, largely because of the way it was filmed. Much more recently, Vince McMahon got fake arrested on Raw in NYC, leading to TMZ reporting thousands of fans calling the real NYPD with information about him.
On a much smaller scale, I've also heard tale of a county fair hosting wrestling show featuring New Jack, causing dozens of people who lived nearby to call the cops during his segment, thinking he and whatever gangstas were with him really invaded the show or something like that.
Leaning more on the major companies than the county fair example, anyone know of any other famous incidents where the police were flooded with calls about wrestling shows? I doubt it happens often today, that NYC incident probably being more about trolling than anything else. I feel like someone probably has great stories about the territorial era, though, and so I open the discussion to FAN. And I'm sure there's like one dude in Kansas or something who calls them every week, I mean a bunch of people en masse.

This is why WWE does "local medical facility", they understand that fans do not get it and would be inundating Memorial Whateverthef*** with calls or visitors.

There was something about people calling the police in Memphis after Eddie Gilbert hit Jerry Lawler with his car. Jerry had to go back on TV to show people that he wasn't killed.

Orlando PD was supposedly swamped with calls on the episode of Nitro where the nWo beat up a bunch of guys in the back - featuring the famous lawn dart incident.

How I would love to hear the 911 calls made by these obsessed fans...
"Y'all ain't gonna believe it...I just saw some rasslin' limo git blown up on TV.
Waaaaait....y'all saying this stuff is fake? The owner was in the damn limo on my TV!"

Local authorities were called when James Storm put Mickie James on the train tracks in TNA.
This resulted in a strange semi-kayfabe James Storm explanation on Twitter informing us it's just a show.

There was that time when Bret was taken away in an ambulance (maybe it even was on the worst day of his life?) with a plainly visible hospital name and phone number on the side, resulting in a bunch of people calling there to hear how he was doing.

I read somewhere a while back that people in Universal Studios called the cops when TNA did the Main Event Mafia/World Elite/entire roster riot because they thought that they were legit fighting each other.

I just watched this segment for the first time. What the shit. It made absolutely no sense and featured atrocious acting. Even if wrestling was 100% real I'd think that segment was fake. But sure enough, at least one such Tweet does exist, so I believe it happened.

The pillman/Austin fun storyline comes to mind. Where the wwe themselves said people called 911 when Austin broke into Pillman's house , and a gun shot is heard as things go dark.

Fans called the cops when Vince's limo exploded. This seems so odd to me. For years WWE has been telling the audience that it's fake. It's like calling the cops because a villain is taking over Central City on The Flash.

On the 6:05 podcast they were telling a story about the Memphis territory where some heels were beating down a face. An old lady had called the police department and asked them to "stop the murder on TV". Somehow somebody got a hold of the recording of the call. It's one of their regular sound bites. I pop whenever I hear it.

It's like calling the cops because a villain is taking over Central City on The Flash. In all fairness to that particular incident, a few of the calls were from people nearby who weren't necessarily even wrestling fans and simply saw a massive explosion in a parking lot.

Its dumb when people call the cops on something that is clearly scripted, those that don't watch wrestling however might be inclined to call because they might think its a real fight instead of something scripted

Not called the cops but there was an infamous story of Piper getting guns pulled out on him by the police in the Caribbean due to heeling/cheating for Flair during a NWA World Title match.

JBL mention that when they did the segment when he caused Eddie's mom to have a heart attack, he ran straight to his car that was running in fear of retribution by the crowd.

All of us here are hardcore wrestling fans but what we need to remember is that some people out there still very much believe that wrestling is real. I don't know how they think about it but I think the thought process is some of it is "fake garbage" but some of it is "real" hence why you have cops being called for WWE. I doubt they believe something like Undertaker shooting lightning bolts but when they see an explosion right in front of their eyes or they see a heel causing a faces mum to have a heart attack of course some are going to assume it's real.
Personally I wish it was more like that. I wish people still believed so much that they'd bring a knife to the arena or call the cops. Not because I want to see wrestlers get stabbed but if someone is so emotionally invested in the product that they are legitimately going to bring a lethal weapon to the arena or call emergency services that means everyone is making money. That means the people are going to come back week after week because they're emotionally invested in the faces and the heels.
Wrestling lacks that these days and that's why the business struggles. Most people just assume "Oh it's just fake" but imagine if someone out there could convince everyone else that it was real again. Wouldn't that be something?
