I have battled against evil, against power-mad conspirators.
I should have stayed here! The oldest civilization: decadent, degenerate, and ROTTEN TO THE CORE!!!!
Ha! Power-mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans, CYBERMEN!! They're still in the nursery compared to us! TEN MILLION YEARS OF ABSOLUTE POWER!! That's what it takes to be REALLY corrupt!!

I know it gets a lot of flack from fandom at large, but I still bloody love Trial. The Mysterious Planet is classic Robert Holmes (complete with one of his best double acts in Glitz and Dibber), the other segments work great for what they're aiming for, and The Ultimate Foe is just astonishing considering how little time Pip and Jane Baker had to write it, and not being allowed to use the previous planned conclusions written by Holmes before his death.
Michael Jayston and Colin Baker work as perfect foils, and Ainley's in there at his best just to compound things. I always love how the Doctor's on trial for genocide, about to be sentenced to death, his best friend seemingly mindwiped and essentially murdered, but when the Master shows up? "Oh no, now I really am finished!". Just that last straw...
So glad that Six finally got his proper sendoff story courtesy of Big Finish, and that The Valeyard was back for it.

Six gets a lot of flack that I feel he really doesn't deserve. Was he the Best Doctor? No, not really. And he was somewhat a victim of circumstance, since there was a lot going on during the Sixth Doctor Era behind the scenes. If he had more time to develop, I think people would look back more fondly of Six.

And he was somewhat a victim of circumstance, since there was a lot going on during the Sixth Doctor Era behind the scenes. If he had more time to develop, I think people would look back more fondly of Six. They wanted to recapture that magic of Hartnell turning from the curmudgeon to the friendly grandfather figure, but did it a bit clumsily then didn't actually spend the amount of time needed for that transformation. They've done a bit of a better job with Capaldi, thankfully, even though some people were saying to sack him from the first season, not even getting why that had failed before. But when given some amazing writers, a mellower character and the time to develop with his companions, Colin Baker has been incredible, and voted at the top of people's favourites lists. {Spoiler}Personally, I've loved him since those first UK Gold repeats of Trial when I was a kid. And it probably shows.
