Bring in Jodie Foster as executive producer, just to supervise and keep him under control.

Gibson is one of the best of all time his participation will be a benefit to them all. So of course it wont happen like Ben Affleck directing Batman.

Bigotry and intelligence aren't mutually exclusive, a person can still be intelligent even when what they believe is dumb as hell. There are studies that suggest that people of lower intelligence tend to hold more prejudices, but someone with a brilliant mind is just as capable of holding some abhorrent beliefs. Hell I read and in some cases know some of the smartest people to hold such stupid beliefs but are so intelligent they tend to be so stubborn to refuse to admit they were wrong. Look at some of histories greatest monsters and look at how accomplished, educated, and smart they were. Fred Phellps was a successful civil rights lawyer, Osama Bin Laden was a engineer, Boston Bomber was a med school student, etc. Look at the heads of many terror groups or politicians and political pundits you don't like and you'll be shocked by what they did during there past jobs and the success they had with it or what they graduated with in what school with top honors. With that being said Mel Gibson is a good director but a highly questionable person. But so can be said of many of the more involved more powerful behind the scenes studio heads and financers or stuff. I understand the uncomfortably since he is a public figure but I'm sure more powerful studio heads have said and done worse in an already extremely shady business. The only thing he has going is a good track record of films and being an extremely entertaining actor. Like I'm not against anyone or calling out anyone for being uncomfortable and just stating my own point of view on things and it's not gospel. But hypothetically if say Chris Evans said a bunch of racist or anti semantic things, I would be pretty uncomfortable him representing the role of Captain America who is suppose to represent goodness and by being Captain America you have accepted the responsibility of being a role model to kids. But if Chris Evans was playing a different role or a character that isn't a moral role model paradigm like Captain America or moved on being a director I wouldn't mind.
