Emperor Palpatine, you told us that the Dearth Star Program would bring peace and order to the Galaxy. Yet after being used once and costing 9000% of the Republic's GDP it was destroyed by a farmer's lucky shot. And now you want to build a second, more expense version. How do you plan to pay for this project WITHOUT a tax increase?

I often wonder if it wasn't cheaper to build a death star and have it blow up 1 important planet before it gets destroyed than it was to destroy/fully conquer the single planet conventionally.
For instance, Alderaan. I'm halfway convinced it was cheaper and easier to build the entire Death Star and have it blow up just that one planet then it would have been to try and conquer the planet and deal with the ramifications and continuing issues.
Especially the first death star. The Geonosians already sunk the cost of design into most of the thing. And the end of Ep III it looks like they even had it's superstructure already completed. So you got a discount planet killer.
