Hey all, I made this thread not for the purposes of bragging but to encourage others to join in as well. This is a cause I deeply care about. If you are able, please donate.

I don't know that I'd have the constitution to do something like this myself, and needles freak me out, but I've been trying to donate more often in other ways as of late myself. Trying to do a bit more to do my part helping out others.

I am extremely proud of you. I had to have a blood transfusion about 2 years ago, because my blood count was 6 (supposed to be 12), and, my dad has been a recipient of platelets, because his count is low. I think that it's awesome, that you did that.

no this is over a course of 9 years. Doing it since high school. Blood donations require 2 months between donations but platelets can be donated as much as very 2 weeks

I've donated about 5 times. I called out from work the day after 9/11 to donate, it was like a 2-3 hour wait. They were giving out numbered wristbands, I went and had breakfast and read the newspaper and then went back for the donation.

Good on ya, man. I try to give blood when I can since I've got a rare blood type (Type A Negative).

Donated once, my grandfather had cancer so a few family members, including me donated blood. Got real scared cause obviously they check the blood and mine came back positive with Hep C, I started to freak out and got a couple retest done, luckily it turned out it was a "false positive" and I was clear but wooo, that was a fun couple days

I'm O Positive. I would love to donate, and give back, since blood was given to me. Unfortunately, I can't, because of the medicine I'm on, and also probably because I've had a transfusion. It's such a wonderful thing, to donate. It's very selfless.

I used to give blood at least once a year. Did that for almost 20 years. Then one time in 2002 (?), I was donating at a hospital and they got what thy admitted was a false positive for HIV. They knew it was wrong but the put my name on the "can't donate" list anyway. I am totally healthy but cannot donate again until 2225. Yes, I said 2225.

Hey all, I made this thread not for the purposes of bragging but to encourage others to join in as well. This is a cause I deeply care about. If you are able, please donate. My old job would give you a day off with pay if you donated blood, could do this 2 times a year. So I would. And I still would, even though I haven't worked at that place since 2007,but one of the meds I am on doesn't allow me to donate blood/platelets.
