And by this, I mean the actor playing to their typecast. I know this criticism came up a few times last year with Suicide Squad, where Will Smith was playing Will Smith playing Deadshot. I ask this because I went to watch Fist Fight yesterday knowing full and well that Ice Cube was going to play Ice Cube and ended up enjoying it.

If we're going with actually playing themselves for real, then Neil Patrick Harris in the Harold and Kumar films. Actors playing to their typecast, probably Nicolas Cage in just about any film he's made in the last decade or so. Or Even though it was so early in his career he hadn't been typecast yet, Matthew McConaughey seems to be playing Matthew McConaughey in Ed TV.

Hugh Grant has actually said he's very similar to his character Will from About a Boy. People always used to think of him as a charming, romantic, polite English gent when in reality he can be shallow, arrogant and egotistical.

Morgan Freeman in everything. I'm convinced that in real life, he spends his time being a mentor to a 30 year old white guy at any given time.

Steven Seagal. You see him in one movie, then you basically know how he is in the rest.

Bill Murray in Space Jam. Strangely enough, Micheal Jordan in the same movie, not so much.

As long as "actually playing themselves" goes, my of the top of my head favorite is Jean-Claude Van Damme in the Las Vegas TV show. He shows up at the casino to shoot a movie, and then a stunt goes wrong and he's killed. For "real", followed by a memorial service and stuff. So within the world of Las Vegas, Van Damme is dead.
