So today at work I was discussing the Watchmen movie, and I came to the end scene, where Doctor Manhattan destroys Rorschach. And I explained what I saw in that scene, when the camera looks down and sees the remains of Rorschach in its own Rorschach pattern.
To me, I always took that as the film asking the audience what they see in this action, in Rorschach's destruction. Is it right, is it wrong? Was it a good move, an evil move, a necessary move above questions of morality, etc? It's the film holding up its own ink blot to the audience and leaving it to their interpretations, implications and all.
I checked the comic, and it's not in there, so this is solely belonging to the movie. And I think it's utterly brilliant. What does everyone else think?
And yes, Zack Snyder is the devil, blah blah blah BvS is evil incarnate, blah blah blah, gritty dark gritdark. I hope we got it out of our system.

You forgot "MARTHA!"
But in all due seriousness, that worked for Snyder because Alan Moore's work was meant to be an alternative interpretation of superhero interaction.
Of course, did Dr. Manhattan really need a big dick?

Of course, did Dr. Manhattan really need a big dick? Well, we have the technology to make a giant blue dick, so why wouldn't we? But yeah, I always kind of liked Watchmen. It was a weird-ass movie for sure, but it was clever in how it portrayed superheroes in a realistic yet still sorta fantastical way.

Been a while since I saw it last, but if so, that's a good touch and does make quite a bit of sense.

Changed the thread title to prevent spoilers. Well then I demand "character" and "death" be capitalized! It's driving me nuts.

It felt cheesy but I thought Rorschach's death was done very well. It's been a while since I seen the movie but there are changes I liked like instead of an alien it was a shockwave and some changes I hated like making Nite Owl looking and acting like he's The Goddamned Batman.

Changed the thread title to prevent spoilers. No real need for that - the book is 30 years old and the movie is 8.

I don't know if that was the intention or if he was just chasing a slightly visual there, but that is basically the theme of the graphic novel in general, so it does work.

Of course, did Dr. Manhattan really need a big dick? When you are given the chance to CGI a giant blue dick, you CGI the hell out of a giant blue dick.

I suspect there wasn't much thought to Rorschach's death and the pattern on Snyder's part beyond "lol his blasted corpse looks like a Rorschach inkblot in the snow." But it was a good movie, and now I'd like to think this was in fact the intent... either way, good catch Limity (BLM)

It was a good scene, but I doubt Syder was trying to be subtle.
Also, slightly off topic, but I actually liked the Martha thing. Made Batman see that there was more to Superman than omnipotent unfeeling mega alien of doom. He was dare I say, human. Enough time to hesitate on a killing blow, as opposed to what would happen against a xenomorph.

I love how in a film with a graphic rape scene, more people choose to focus on the full frontal nudity from Dr Manhattan.
