I have woken up thinking I had to go in but quickly realized I didn't-one of the best feelings in the world, not that I dislike my work, but it's still nice

I didn't know that we were closed on January 1st. I went to work and tried to get in and the door was locked. I sat there for longer than I'd care to admit before I went home.

Closed? No.
When the power was out and we couldn't do our jobs? Yes.
In that case we just did some spring cleaning around the store.

I've had jobs that forget to post a new schedule, so two or three times I've showed up, only to have my boss say, "What are you doing here?" So I have showed up on my days off not knowing I was off. But I hung around and helped for a bit before leaving. It also helped that one time I looked at an old schedule and didn't show up one day. But the boss was like, "It's cool. We didn't need you." I had one job like that. It was awful. We had to continuously ask our boss for our schedules and we would get told there were more important things going on at the moment. I would ask if we were going to be busy next week because if we were I'm available to help with all this work and if not I'd be happy to take the week off. We couldn't believe we had to struggle so often just to find out our schedules for the following week. We were also sent home once because we showed up to work and the building was on fire. We only missed a day for that. I don't miss that job at all.

trucked my way through a shitload of snow one time only to get there to find out we closed because of the snow. Once drove to work though a snowstorm and was one of very few to show up. Store manager gathered everyone together and said we were one short of the minimum needed to open the store so they would be sending us home... ...and then one more person pulled up. We ended up working our asses off that day.

Not quite the same, but during the recent roads freezing over here in north GA, I managed to be the only person to make it to work on time, and was promptly told to "go home" when I called my boss to ask what was up.

Another not quite work but still kinda the same story: During college (Community college, to be exact), I went out for classes one day. Since this was in the middle of my first year there, I was a bit out of the loop on how holidays work in college (Some holidays the place was open, even if public schools were not). I make the walk, then once I get there, I notice that there's no one there, no people or cars or anything. After a second or two, I realized "Shit, it's Independence Day, the place is closed!" and walked back home. Man I felt like a dunce.
