Rip-off movies that were better than the source

Do they exist?

And I'm not talking about parody or satire movies, I'm talking about Asylem-style ripoffs of more popular or well known movies. Things like Transmorphers was to Transformers, Tappy Toes was to Happy Feet, Atlantic Rim was to Pacific Rim, or about half a dozen different movies were to Frozen. The kind of movies where it was painfully obvious that they were ripping something off in hopes of making some quick cash before the hype for the original died down.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any, but maybe you can.

They're both awful, but I Am Omega's far more watchable to me.

Hmm not a lot of these films are really better than the originals that I can think of, some decent attempts but not better.

Well Torque is alright and a blatant cash grab after Fast and The Furious did well.

The killer whale film Orca is decent as a rip off of Jaws.

The rip off War of the Worlds movie was 100 times better than the Tom Cruise War of the Worlds.
