The NWA World Tag Titles changed hands today in Tokyo Japan at Shinkiba, at during a Diamond Stars Wrestling show, which is The National Wrestling Alliance's attempt to expand into Japan it looks like, Rob Terry and Kazushi Miyamoto defeated The Iron Empire of Rob Conway and Matt Riviera to become The 83rd title holders. Road Warrior Animal was a special ring enforcer who pummeled NWA President Bruce Tharpe when he tried to get involved.
Goes to say something when Rob Terry is one of your promotion's champions.

The problems with the NWA today are all in this announcement. As a follower of the NWA for about ten years now (Ever since they left TNA) I'm not surprised that nobody has commented or replied to this post yet.
The problems are simple, allow me to share:
- They rush title changes. As a follower of the brand all I can tell you about these two teams is that Rob Conway and Riviera beat Terry and Miyamoto about three months ago in the first match. They've now come back for a rematch and lost, there isn't a story line, there isn't a reason to care and if there is it's not being advertised.
- Their tag team champions are now a wrestler from Japan and a wrestler who resides in Florida. The NWA Florida territory sees zero benefit because they don't book Rob Terry or even run shows anymore, the Japanese territory sees zero benefit because to have a title match they need to pay for a flight from Florida to Tokyo. The 20 or so NWA territories who pay to get benefits from the NWA see zero benefit because if they want a title defence they need to fly a guy from interstate and a guy from Japan which most can't afford. Nobody sees any benefit from the change.
- Bruce Tharpe the NWA President is unfortunately a pretty big mark for himself hence why he's getting involved in stuff. After 4 years of him being involved in things and popping his head up every time something happens it gets old.
The one positive is it's something different and it's improving the NWA's relationship with this new Japanese company but as I've said above the NWA territories can only really book one half of the champions realistically.

Agreed on Tharpe being a mark, I'd say he's about five IQ points smarter than Dixie Carter (That's not a compliment by the way). Looking at the show, we could've had Ryota Hama as NWA World Champion as well.
NJPW is open to working with most promotions, and the fact they told them "No thanks," tells you how even they regard the NWA nowadays.

Japan loves the NWA and muscleheads so this works out for this promotion.
