Like how A Momentary Lapse of Reason by Pink Floyd is quadruple platinum.
You can be a pretty big classic rock nerd and never hear of that album. Yet, 4 million people (in the US alone) bought it.

Ok, everybody calm down, before I say this I'm NOT attacking her, but The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is a one album wonder. 19 million sold and it's almost forgotten.

I think it's fair to call her a one album wonder but Miseducation is far from forgotten. It's always mentioned in best albums of the 90's list and often times is mentioned as best of all time. She is the Television,United States Of America,Minor Threat etc of her era.

It tends to often be a punchline on I Love the 90s type shows, but more copies of Cracked Rear View by Hootie and the Blowfish were sold in the United States than Abbey Road, Appetite for Destruction, Born in the USA, The Wall, or Purple Rain.

Ashlee Simpson released three albums, two went to #1, the third went to #2. After the third album, she got married and out of the public eye. As for others, it seems that when it comes to Nas albums, the only ones that don't get talked about a lot are "I Am" and "Nastradamus." Okay, maybe some people negatively talk about the latter but after having listened to it nearly a year ago, I don't think the album is as terrible as people say it is. I rarely hear people talk about "I Am," but everyone speaks highly about "Illmatic" and "It Was Written," both of which were great. Same with "Stillmatic" and other ones after that.

Head East. Flat as a Pancake. 500,000 copies sold. Went Gold. Now name one song from that album without looking it up (heck, name one Head East song ever).

Anything Al Yankovic released from the beginning until Mandatory Fun. Damn near all went either gold or platinum. All but one charted well. And all of his albums have at least ONE memorable song.

I've been thinking about this album lately, so this is perfect I didn't buy it or listen to it, but this seemingly came from out of nowhere and sold 6 million copies worldwide and went to number 3 on the billboard charts

The 17th biggest selling album in the UK (with more sales then Bat Out of Hell and Bridge Over Troubled Water):

Nobody talks about Jagged Little Pill anymore but I remember that being huge when it came out.

I only ever see it mentioned in those "I love the '90s" type shows. Like, "Remember when that monk album sold a shitload of copies? WTF?"

I love obscure '70s classic rock. Head East did a good version of "Since You Been Gone" a year before Rainbow had a hit with it.

I know compilations aren't quite the same and are well-discussed but people forget just how much the Now That's What I Call Music albums sell. The volume that comes out in time for Christmas is always one of the best-selling albums of the year in the U.K. Now 44 sold well over two million copies here, which is in the same company as well-known albums like Jagged Little Pill, Graceland and The Joshua Tree.
