I LOVED this show. My mom would tape it for me and I would watch it while I got ready for school. I wish I still had those tapes. I also still have the majority of these toys and vehicles in my attic.

The crime rate was pretty low in that show, Mostly petty theft. No murders, real violent stuff, vice or drug dealing. Maybe the odd kidnapping. Yeah, the COPS did such a good job all the real dangerous criminals must have been already serving time by the time the show started.

They did do one drug dealing-based episode (the "drug" in that episode was called "Crystal Twist" which sounds more like a diet soda). Also, fun fact, the character Checkpoint was related to the GI Joe character Beachhead (confirmed by various official sources), therefore putting them into the whole "Hasbroverse".

Robot Chicken should do a spoof that's like COPS meets HBO's The Wire
If they haven't already, not seen it in a while.
I bet they did COPS in the style of the reality show Cops.

It was mentioned a bunch of times that Squeeky Kleen was a rapist and Buttons McBoomBoom was into white slavery...what show were you watching?

A kids cartoon made to sell toys Having had most of the toys, I remember they had a bio card on the action figures. I don't remember their crimes. Unless it was guys like Turbo Tutone, who I assumed was a getaway driver. Mostly due to their name and vehicle. But apparently they had their rap sheet in their bio.

But my brother got the firefighter character. I think the selling point of the line is that each figure came with some large hand weapon that came with a slot you could put that stuff you put in "starter pistols" so when pulled back and released a lever it would make a loud bang create a small spark and a little smoke. The thing would not bang most of the time.

It's crime fighting time!
Somewhat surprised no one has tried to reboot this... like even in comic book form.

The action figures made me think the villains would be badasses, but the cartoon made most of them seem like bumbling idiots.
And the only episode I remember was the PSA one. The villains teamed up with the good guys to take down a drug dealer after Big Boss' nephew OD'd.

Also, fun fact, the character Checkpoint was related to the GI Joe character Beachhead (confirmed by various official sources), therefore putting them into the whole "Hasbroverse". I remember saying this in a thread about how anti-drug episodes of cartoons always seemed to feature fictional drugs instead ones that exist in real life, which is I find it interesting that in this episode ("The Case of The Lowest Crime") the COPS and Crooks unite to take down Addictem (Crystal Twist's pusher man) after Berzerko has a nearly fatal accidental overdose. But even before that, Buttons McBoomBoom brings Addictem into meet Big Boss about a possible business relationship. But Big Boss tells him to pound sand because even he has standards and he basically thinks that drug dealers are the scum of the earth. I bring this up, because I like to think that if Empire City has an underground straight edge scene, they must be insufferable. Because they can rightfully brag "we're so straight edge that even our criminals don't mess around with drugs!"

I never realized these figures are basically just bigger 80s G.I. Joe figures until recently. I almost wonder if you could get away putting one of their heads on a Joe figure. Probably look too big.

I wonder if the COPS toys fit in with the modern-era Joe (and Marvel Comics) figures that inch towards 4 inches as opposed to the 3.75 inches of older figures. Fun Fact: The show had to change its name to "Cyber COPS" when shown in reruns after the Fox show "Cops" rose to prominence.

Was Buttons McBoom Boom a robot or cyborg? I know his box art had him with that look (considering his jacked opened up to reveal the guns) but I dont know if it was ever brought up on the show.
