I LOVED this show. My mom would tape it for me and I would watch it while I got ready for school. I wish I still had those tapes. I also still have the majority of these toys and vehicles in my attic. Can I come over and play? My mom says it's ok! Hell yeah. We'll get pizza and watch Masters of the Universe and Monster Squad too.

The show was great, but the comic was even better.
Shame it only lasted 15 issues. Gave a lot more depth to the characters.

I never realized these figures are basically just bigger 80s G.I. Joe figures until recently. I almost wonder if you could get away putting one of their heads on a Joe figure. Probably look too big. I wonder if the COPS toys fit in with the modern-era Joe (and Marvel Comics) figures that inch towards 4 inches as opposed to the 3.75 inches of older figures. Fun Fact: The show had to change its name to "Cyber COPS" when shown in reruns after the Fox show "Cops" rose to prominence. I watched it in syndication as Cyber COPS. It was a weird fever dream of mine for a long time, trying to figure out that show I definitely recalled being a part of CBS' Action Zone that was on the tip of my tongue but couldn't place it until recently.

I LOVED this show and had all of the toys. The toys were dope as hell. Some of them had caps for the guns.

I know years ago I noticed a number of people who had "C.O.P.S." listed as a favorite show on Facebook. It was clear that they meant the other COPS (live action show about real cops) but had mistakenly liked the kid's show they probably had never even heard of.

The crime rate was pretty low in that show, Mostly petty theft. No murders, real violent stuff, vice or drug dealing. Maybe the odd kidnapping. Yeah, the COPS did such a good job all the real dangerous criminals must have been already serving time by the time the show started. Or they decided to invade and conquer the next town over.

Something I noticed, here's some of the names of the Cops: Mainframe Hardtop Mace Bullet-Proof
All names that either were already used by GI Joe (Mainframe and Hardtop) or would eventually be used (Mace and Bullet-Proof). There was also Mirage (A Transformers name),Highway (which was similar to the Autobot Freeway), and Barricade (who was a evil cop car in the live-action Transformers franchise, ironically enough).

Mace and Bullet-Proof showed up later as a part of GI Joe's DEF (Drug Elimination Force). Not sure if they were the same characters, but the names were used.

Fun Fact: The show had to change its name to "Cyber COPS" when shown in reruns after the Fox show "Cops" rose to prominence. That confused the shit out of me as a kid that there was COPS the cartoon and Cops the reality show. The perpetrators (or alleged perpetrators, as the opening voiceover reminds us, all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law) on Cops weren't nearly as fun as the crooks on COPS. I was born in 1983, so I was pretty young when Cops started and reality television existed but wasn't that big of a genre. So I was under the impression that this was just a really low budget police procedural. I experienced some serious cognitive dissonance when my dad told me these were actual cops, with actual guns with real bullets in them doing actual police work. Because I knew there was fictional television shows like sitcoms, dramas, cartoons, etc., and nonfiction television shows like news and sports programs (which at the time I included pro wrestling in this. Again I was very young). So to have a nonfiction program that wasn't news or sports was odd to me. For the longest time it went over my head that COPS was an acronym. Even though the show begins with Bulletproof saying "COPS-Central Organization of Police Specialists." I didn't even really grasp it until watching The Case of C.O.P.S. File #1, Part 1 & 2 which shows how they were put together and thinking "oh yeah, because they consist of a typical city beat cop, a K-9 officer, a SWAT team guy, a Texas ranger, riot control, a highway patrolman, etc." I can be a bit dense at times. Despite having all these different types of law enforcement personnel, Longarm O'Malley was my favorite. There wasn't a whole lot to him. He was just your typical beat cop/police sargent who was dedicated to his job and his family. Which is admirable, but doesn't tend to grab the imagination of young children. Although having that bad ass power cuff certainly helped matters.
