Was thinking about this because of a thread about ghosts a few days ago. Yours truly is a definite believer in the paranormal and cryptozoology-but I'm also just rational enough to say that there are certain cases I can look at at blatantly call BS. I am also a believer in the scientific approach to both, so certain examples can be outright dismissed as scientifically impossible-case in point, there are no megaladon sharks swimming around in the ocean today. The ocean's now are considerable colder than when those monsters thrived, and the kind of food sources they survived on no longer exist. So they are extinct, period. And for the most part, I say the same thing about the ever infamous Bigfoot; I largely do not believe in it for the simple reason that there has never been a body found, never a confirmed DNA test. But then there is something like the infamous Paterson-Gimlin footage, where I can't help but be a bit uncertain.
The thing that confounds me about that famous film reel is the small details, like the fact that you can visibly see muscle moving under the fur as the subject walks away. Also the way it moves, such as turning at the torso to look over it's shoulder instead of just craning its neck the way a human being would do-all very ape-like mannerisms. There is not a doubt in my mind it could all be faked, but the kind of elaborate preparations that would go into making such a fake being pulled by two local yokels would seem to stretch plausibility a little. And even if it is fake, I would want to know just how they pulled it off because it would have to be one of the most convincing fakes in modern history. However, if it is real, then it has to be one of the most significant pieces of scientific evidence ever recorded. Which just makes the fact that there is no way to verify it all the more frustrating.

It's fake. All Bigfoot-related sightings and anecdotes are. They weren't yokels. Patterson had been trying to shill various Bigfoot-based projects for years previously. In the absence of a real creature, he simply manufactured one.

Fundamentally a creature the size of Bigfoot cannot exist. While it's true that previously undiscovered animal species are often found, it's usually in the deep sea or in exceptionally remote locations. The terrain of the Pacific Northwest is rugged, but certainly not enough to hide such a population of creatures, and I do say population, because it would need to exist in significant numbers in order to survive. By now, there would have been confirmed evidence to prove it, in the shape of footprints, howls and calls, evidence of a food source, piles of shit, dead bodies/skeletons etc...but nothing has ever been found. The same thing applies to Nessie, Yetis and other cryptoids. Basically if Bigfoot existed, they would be in zoo by now, or some sort of nature reserve. My guess is that Bigfoot sightings are most often either outright hoaxes, or mistaken sightings of bears.

Does Skunk Ape count as a Bigfoot? Because there's certainly something there. Looks like an Orangutan but I think he photo were proven legit and they were definitely taken in Florida.
I don't do any in depth research just going off what I remember hearing

Skunk Ape is also a hoax. If it was real, by now someone in Florida would have married it.

Skunk Ape is also a hoax. If it was real, by now someone in Florida would have married it. And then killed it and raped the corpse. Because Florida.

He didn't have his SAG Card yet.

Dude in a suit.
No fossil record of extant primates, no physical evidence of anything ever that is remotely conclusive or not
outright hoaxed. No way for a breeding population to have enough food sources to sustain the hundreds to thousands of creatures there would have to be. Bears repeating: no verifiable physical evidence.

I agree with the bigfoot is fake people. However for skunk ape... I believe it is possible but most likely just a common escaped ape. Whenever an animal is imported into the US it has to be held in quarantine. These places are just big warehouses that hold animals while they are checked for diseases. Florida is the primary place for this. This is a terrible idea so of course its in Florida. Every so often a giant hurricane rips apart Florida and these quarantine sites have been hit several times. Also Florida has some of the laxest restrictions on exotic animal ownership because again they are Florida. And because Florida is the most tropical state in the US it's a perfect place for many of these animals to survive if they get out. They should be held in Maine or Minnesota. I mean, say a python gets out in Maine it has until snowfall to reek havok and then its dead. www.clickorlando.com/news/investigators/exotic-pets-escape-from-florida-homes

I'd like to direct everyone's attention to a little documentary called Harry and the Hendersons.

Dude in a suit. Yep, no fossils, no scat samples, not enough sources of food for a population to sustain itself... not to mention since everyone has a phone in their pocket now we'd have multiple clear photos of it. And of course we all know Bigfoot lives on Mars... are you trying to tell me he has a spaceship and uses it to travel to the middle of the woods? what kind of sense does that make.

Isn't Bigfoot in Mars because a Wizard put him there? the evidence isn't clear on how Bigfoot got to Mars.... only that Bigfoot is most assuredly on Mars.

Bigfoot definitely exists. I saw it race against Grave Digger once.
