I'd put Marilyn Manson's cover of Sweet Dreams on the list somewhere.
Even people who otherwise hate Manson seem to agree that that version is great.

A list like this is going to be subjective, but this is a good choice. It also stretches the definition of what a cover song is, as it's a folk song without a clear initial songwriter. |
