Maybe this will be the real return of Japanese Godzilla. Derpzilla doesn't count!!! LOL, I can't think of an interpretation of Godzilla in my lifetime that didn't garner that reaction. From the Marvel Comic to the Hanna-Barbara cartoon to the Heisei series to the '87 Dark Horse one-shot to the Millenium series to the Emmerich film to the 2014 version, every single one of them gets discounted as "not the real Godzilla"

Still...I'll testify to the Emmerich Godzilla still being the Godzilla In Name Only

My first image of both is based off the first movie version I saw. Even though Connery is basically "The True Bond" when somebody says Bond the first image I conjure up is Roger Moore. The first quotes are always Roger Moore quotes. Wacky gadgets? It's always something from Roger Moore. For Godzilla, it's 1984. That's first image that hits my brain. His atomic breath? 1984 style. His size? 1984. I assume it's similar to if a 10 year old sat down to watch Star Wars movies for the first time. Their "Obi Wan" could be based on something as simple as what movies they watched first.

Sugita Tomokazu is a talented voice actor and I'm glad he's getting such a high profile role, but my first thought was still him just turning up as Kyon and wondering what the hell Haruhi has brought about now.

The pictures on the page make it looks futuristic, maybe even like it takes place on another world. I'm interested in what it will be about. When it comes to the Godzilla I picture in my head when I think "Godzilla" it's the original Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla one for me. I wore the VHS out like 3 times, and somehow I never managed to see Terror of Mechagodzilla till like 1995 or something on TNT, my mom just couldn't find a copy of it when I was a kid.

Oh, sure, and I think that may be why I'm okay with most every interpretation - my first Godzilla(s) were the aforementioned Marvel comic and Hanna-Barbara cartoon. I didn't know about the movies for another couple of years. But seriously, for those who have issues with the design or powers of Shin G, I can point out "frog-face" G, or the various times he turned himself into a magnet, flew in the air using his breath, was a Lovecraftian horror, shot laser beams from his eyes, was the size of a rat (and fought one), used the sliding dropkick, and could shoot his fist off his arm at foes. I'm glad the character isn't stagnant, stuck in one specific look, story and ability set for the rest of time.
