Chuck Barris was a true genius way ahead of his time. The Gong Show completely changed television, it was, in a way, the first reality TV show. When the Gong Show was at its best during the first couple of seasons, they would constantly screw with the audience, mixing legitimate homegrown acts together with their own written skits. So you could never tell if what you were seeing was "staged", or not, which was a brand new concept for TV at the time. It made for some great moments.
Not to mention that "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" is a stand out piece of work in its own right.
RIP Chuck.

I was familiar with the Gong Show and the song he wrote (Palisades Park) but knew him mostly because of Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind (which I think is a great film)
Not to make light of the situation but Chuck Norris, Chuck Palumbo, Chuck Liddell and Chuck E. Cheese should all consider going into hiding

Oddly, days before, Emile Autori, who played a recurring character on a Barris show, (The New) Treasure Hunt, passed away as well.

Rest in Peace Mr. Barris. Heard him on Tom Snyder one evening, he's just like a wrestler when he tells stories. Some are completely honest, and others he plays up the urban legends behind them to where you want to ask someone, "Is this true or is he bullshitting us?"
RIP. TV was never the same without him.
