It's horrific but it's important for people to keep calm and not react hysterically. The perp has been killed. Now he'll be identified and investigations will begin into whether he acted for ideological reasons, or was mentally ill, and also whether he acted alone, or was part of a wider threat group and conspiracy.

Sky News are disgusting. Showing pictures of the injured while the death toll is rising makes my blood boil. I am not saying this to be a dick, but does the UK have much in the way of news outlets that aren't exploitative and sleazy? Admittedly, I probably just hear about things like this or the monstrous phone hacking shit that should have probably landed many people in prison. The other three main TV news outlets (BBC, ITV and 4) aren't anywhere near as bad or sensationalist as Sky News. The tabloid press however, is pretty much all scum.

Probably not the brightest idea trying to attack one of the most tightly secured and heavily guarded areas in the world. I actually work just round the corner from where the attack took place, and 'tightly secured' is right. I'm opposite Downing Street, and there's always armed police visible. Thankfully, nobody I know is involved and it seems to have been handled as effectively as can be. I don't know the full story yet, but it'll be interesting when the truth comes out.

Yeah, I go to London two or three times each year and everytime I go the security presence (in the form of visible police, cameras and searches) seems to grow each time. Also, I know the attack wasn't on the same scale, but I got the feeling watching parts of the security operation take place that the British police seemed to be far more trained to deal with the situation than the German, Belgian and French forces. It's kind of reassuring in a way!

The police were brilliant today. Took control of the situation superbly, while avoiding panic. Very professional and well trained.

Over here, we were suddenly hit with attacks that haven't been seen in decades and didn't expect to see on our land, and we're still trying to figure out how to prevent them in the future.

It's kind of reassuring in a way! I've worked in Westminster for most of the last 17 years, and have never felt anything other than safe. Hell, I'm in one of if not the safest place in London. I'd like to think that police forces the world over were trained for such events; sadly, you'll never know how to react until it happens.

Things I want to say, but might get into the no-no subjects here. Let's just say not everything is in black and white.

Sorry but my blood is boiling now. One of the victims was a mother going to fetch her children from school. The 8 and 11 year old will never see their mum again.

The PM has confirmed that the attacker was British-born and "known to MI5."

I will say that the London authorities' reaction to all this was proof that the whole "Keep Calm and Carry On" thing isn't just a motto, but it's an accurate description.

The strength of the British just astound me. The stiff upper lip is no joke, but also capable of amazing emotion in responsible correct ways. A credit to the world and to the human race.

Yup, full credit to the boys (and Girls) I'm blue.
As bad as things were yesterday they could have been a hell of a lot worse.
It still sucks that 3 innocent people had to lose their life but Atleast it isn't any higher.
I'm a regular visitor to London and this will not put me off going there again anytime soon.

The worst part to me is that ISIS has claimed they were behind it, but the British police have said they believe it was a lone nutcase-but which version do you think people will believe? All this will do is set off anothe eacecof paranoia and xenophobia. Someone could fart and ISIS would claim responsibility and it would have that effect.

Could make a big announcement, for all the tragedy it is, ISIS's big plan for an attack on the government of their enemies is one nutter in a van.

IS aren't directly involved in most of these attacks in the west. But they definitely inspire them. All the violent shitbergs, often native born in the countries they attack, can now direct their aggression towards what they regard as a "cause". It's more efficient for a terrorist group rather than organising their own cells, which require support, training, documentation, cover stories etc...Lone attackers unconnected to a wider structure also eliminates the risk of the organisation being compromised by informants and infiltration.

Also apparently, they have put some generic information out there, so you don't have to contact them, become a member or anything, just follow these useful steps and be an idiot without them having to raise a finger.
