I mean, c'mon. They shoulda cast that guy Billy Zane. He's a cool dude. Woulda been much better than Eisenberg, and hopefully not given us that just off portrayal of Lex. I know Cranston was talked about too, and he of course woulda been fantastic, but Put a Kryptonite ring on the dude, and he's there. Yeah, I Googled Billy Zane in a suit to make my point here. No, it wasn't for a school project.

because who would want that when they could have a lame Jim Carrey "Riddler" ripoff. clearly the Riddler ripoff was the way to go
besides, does he look like the type of criminal genius who could develop a masterplan which could only be foiled by the coincidence of the mothers of two superheroes tricked into trying to destroy each other having the same first name? obviously not. he's a dud.

Dude played a good heel in Titanic and Demon Knight.
I would whole heartedly endorse that. Instead of that dumbass Carrey Riddler/Ledger Joker horseshit hybrid we got.

Zane isn't exactly going to put butts in seats in 2016.
Most movies nowadays rather make money over making a good casting decision.

I still feel like that casting decision went exactly like this:
DC Exec: "So I think we need to get the main actor, from that show with Jesse...and Heisenberg. The name escapes me right now. What was it? Ahh not important. Get him."
WB Exec: (Not paying attention, looking at pictures of Zack Snyder) "Yeah, ok I gotcha. No problem."
DC Exec: "Great, I'm going to lunch."
(Enter WB Exec 2)
WB Exec 2: "So what decision was made on the role of Lex Luthor?"
WB Exec 1: "I dunno, think he said something about Jesse Eisenberg."
WB Exec 2: "Alright, I'll get his agent on the phone."

While we can appreciate Billy in Demon Knight, The Phantom, Sniper, etc. He will always be the other Titanic guy to most people, which ain't a bad gig. But Eisenberg was nominated for an Oscar for the very successful Social Network and had a big hit with Zombieland. Along with some "meh" movies like Adventureland and 30 Minutes or Less. But unless he dials it way WAY down for future movies, he was horribly miscast as Lex.

Because Snyder doesn't know what makes a good Superman, how the hell would he know what makes a good Luther?

......wasn't Eisenberg technically Alex Luthor Jr. In this movie? I thought they mentioned that his dad was also named Lex.
Which means there's still a proper Lex in this universe. And god willing, he'll show up (faking his death, maybe - was he dead?) and brutally murder his son for being an asshole.

I liked the idea of a younger "silicon valley" inspired Lex Luthor. Especially if it was suppose to be a direct contrast with an older Batman. The sad thing was Jesse Eisenberg's performance as Mark Zuckerberg was more Lex Luthor than his performance as Lex Luthor.

In the books at least Luthor jr did appear, and looked like this: Thing is though, that was STILL real Lex, just him transplanted into a cloned body of himself after he'd faked his own death after developing cancer. That lasted for a couple of years until everyone figured out it was really real Lex and there was no son. Then a clone disease struck him and nearly killed him again until he made a deal with a demon named Neron to get back a healthy body. Comics are weird.

Billy couldn't do it. He was too busy filming Scorpion King part 9.

I'm sure Zane was considered around the time J.J Abrams' Superman project had a shot of living. Or the early Batman/Superman project.
He very much seems like he'd be a perfect Lex...very reminiscent of the one on the Superman Animated Series.

The sad thing was Jesse Eisenberg's performance as Mark Zuckerberg was more Lex Luthor than his performance as Lex Luthor. I liked the idea too. If Snyder didn't have Eisenberg play it so theatrical and as an actual human character, it wouldn't have been so bizarre.
