I was thinking today about just how many movies I watched as a kid was about some kind of underdog sports team.
Mighty Ducks The Big Green Ladybugs Rookie of the Year Little Giants Angels in the Outfield Little Big League
I know there's more but that's all I can name off the top of my head.

I went to High School with the daughter of the guy who wrote Little Giants.

Can't forget the one that sort of started it all - The Bad News Bears (although it wasn't terribly interested in entertaining tykes, it's the blueprint for these films now).

That is my all-time favorite movie. Any genre. Watched it at least once every year before baseball season since 1983. (Sheesh, 2017 marks 35 years. Ouch.) Coincidentally, 1983 was when I started playing fast-pitch softball, so I think my cousin told me to watch it to get an idea of what leagues are like.

Anytime I hear "Finger Poppin' Time" by Hank Ballard, my mind instantly goes to the opening credits of The Sandlot. I love the music in the film; it was probably my first time hearing those oldies.
Disney's remake of Angels in the Outfield is special to me because I watched it with 60,000 people. That's right, 60,000. Since the original film was set in Pittsburgh, the city hosted a screening of the new version at Three Rivers Stadium. Every seat was filled, including the outfield upper-deck seats that were usually tarped off during baseball season. They had these huge movie screens set up on the field and showed the film at night; that was pretty cool for 11-year-old me.

I work at PNC Park and they show movies there now when the team is on the road. I know they showed The Sandlot last season.
