gma.yahoo.com/frozens-original-ending-revealed-isnt-095540288.htmlCliffnotes for those who don't want to read the whole thing: -Elsa and Anna are not sisters, or royalty -Elsa was stood up at the altar by her fiance, causing her to freeze her own heart and become an evil ice witch, much more similar to the original Snow Queen. -Anna is a peasant girl trying to stop her and her army of snow beasts, because a prophesy states that Arendelle will be destroyed by a 'ruler with a frozen heart' -Swerve! It's Prince Hans, still as two-faced as he is in the remake, who decides the best way to get rid of Elsa is to bury her in an avalanche along with the rest of the kingdom -Anna convinces Elsa to turn face, they save the kingdom and Elsa learns how to love again -Kristoff, Sven and Olaf aren't mentioned, so whether they were even part of the original is up in the air, I guess. What do you think? Sound better or worse than what we got instead?

I recall them changing things due to thinking "Let it Go" sounded sympathetic, and preferred to keep the song than change it to have the more villainous Elsa. That decision probably was one of the smartest business decisions in Disney film history, given how much that song has made them, and how massive a hit the film as it is was made.

Sounds worse.
The fact they were sisters (and the song) and both good was the reason for the film's success. The sister relationship was perfectly aimed at little girls with sisters or who wished they had a sister, which I guess is most little girls.
Without that the film would have been a success but nowhere near as big as it was.

I'm no Frozen hater and thought it was fine. This also sounds like it can be a nice movie, but I think there is a loss by not making Anna and Elsa sisters, makes Anna's motivation less personal. In Frozen, protecting her sister is more important to her as protecting the kingdom.

some of this does sound closer to the Snow Queen story... but with teh added bits like Hans still having a heel turn having Anna and Elsa as sisters makes it a much better movie.

It's more accurate to the Hans Christian Andersen version, but as anyone who knows The Little Mermaid's ending knows, that's not necessarily the best thing for a kid-friendly movie.
I'm certainly happy with how the final product turned out. The only thing I wish is that we could have got "Life's Too Short" with a few tweaks instead of the "First Time In Forever" reprise. Really funny song.

Nothing could be better than what we got. As for "Life's Too Short", it's a great song. Thankfully, they were able to use the melody for "Making Today A Perfect Day"

The Frozen we got also has a number of themes in Anna and Elsa's arcs that do more than just build up their relationship as sisters. There's also the coping that the two have to endure after they lose their parents, Elsa's fear of being outcast, her personal identity and dreading the responsibilities she's going to assume.
I feel a lot of that emotional heft would have been lost had they gone the route of making Elsa a typical "muahahaha" villain.
