After the recent passing of my grandmother, items from her home are starting to be passed around the family. My mother was kind enough to bestow upon me a pair of fencing swords that hung in my grandparent's basement, as well as a throwing knife my grandfather used to demonstrate to me. She has also promised me a huge ass meat cleaver my grandmother used to have, but that is buried somewhere among the numerous pots and pans. I value these items for the many fond memories they hold, and I would really like to try restoring them to their proper luster, but they are all pretty badly rusted and worn and it will take some work to get them back to their proper state. So I am looking for any advice that I can get.

Grindstones can be used to improve weapons, by sharpening them and adding weight for extra damage.
Grindstones are located in most towns around Skyrim.

It's my understanding that swords can only be restored by using the blood of your enemies.

Also if they were ever worth anything restoring them to make them look nice is against a collectors code or some shit and it devalues them

Worth mentioning they are purely decorative pieces, there is no bode edge on either of them.

If they're "purely decorative", they probably won't be worth the effort or the cost to clean them up. That being said, you may want to take it to an appraiser anyway.

If I can be serious for a minute... If they are purely for sentimental value, all you need is a rust dissolver to clean them up, and then metal polish to make them gleam. Your local hardware store should have both. I should probably mention that you should go easy on any chemicals used. Do a minor spot carefully first to see how the blades react. If there's no bad reaction, do the whole blade.
