Pretty good vid. I remember TDI being HUGE around the forums for a bit. I feel like the two major issues the show had was that Canada got new episodes before the US did, so if someone really wanted to know who would be eliminated next, they can find out online and not tune in.
The other being after the second season, everyone just got burned out of it. Season 3 had still the same cast as season 1 and 2 minus two people they added and I think that was everyone's tipping point. The Ridonculous Race was a new cast but I felt like there's not as much lovable characters in this one. By this point, the light was burned out. It's still kind of strange no one really talks about TDI anymore with how huge it was 9-10 years ago.

I only ever saw the first season but I loved it at the time. I liked 6Teen better though. I'm surprised that show doesn't get much love.

First off, before I get to TDI, I used to not be a fan of RebelTaxi at all, and there are a few times I'll shake my head at something he says, but I'm starting to dig his stuff. When he does proper reviews, he's fire. And maybe it's just the nostalgia mark in me, but I love him using the old commercial bumpers for his ad breaks. Stuns me more people on YouTube don't do that themselves.
Anyway, onto TD...
First two seasons were really good, after that it fell off for me. I also didn't like how they seemed to just "forget" who won after Owen burned off his winnings on the first season. I still remember when Duncan quit "World Tour" Trent commented something along the lines of "Why would Duncan just walk away at his chance for a million dollars?!?" when Duncan had won a million dollars in the previous season and (unless I totally missed something) never actually lost it. Duncan came off as a character that would've rather taken his million and gone off the grid rather than come back to double up.
And I kinda liked how they did the multiple endings to allow viewers to vote for a winner and play it as if it was "on-the-fly" like that, and had voting for separate regions. But usually the winners were the same no matter the region.
Ridonculous Race was actually a decent reboot of the show; the new cast members were alright for the most part (and Owen and Noah reminded me so much of me and my friend Dylan it was bordering on uncanny at times) but it was "meh" for me still.
When the show hit, it was pretty good. But it had more misses than hits.
As for his statement on it being "the start" of them allowing more mature animated shows...I dunno. There were a few times Flapjack and Chowder pushed things. Nowhere near the TDI level, but it wasn't like those were baby shows. I remember always thinking it was weird during that time that other shows could push language and content, with some shows going completely uncut late-night on cable networks (I was flat out shocked when Comedy Central ran "South Park; Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" uncensored around this time), but cartoons had to clean up when in the early-mid 90s cartoons could push things a bit; Ren and Stimpy, Rocko, Hey Arnold, Cow and Chicken, even stuff like Rugrats, Dexter's Lab, and the first season or two of Spongebob would shoot for jokes that would aim right at the parent of the intended audience once in awhile. It never made sense to me why the leash tightened on cartoons when it loosened on everything else. And I get the whole "educational television" requirement stuff, but I don't remember that just vanishing when Regular Show and Adventure Time and the like showed up. I think CN just wised up to that themselves. Now, maybe TDI was a testing of the waters to an extent (see what gets censored and what gets through), but I feel like they'd have gotten there without TDI anyway.

Powerline To go to what you said off-topic, most cartoons get scrutinized these days because standards are more strict in younger demographics. But, there's exceptions to the rule. Only Teen Titans Go seems to be above the rules, which sucks because they are essentially Family Guy Junior, including a recent episode who a gay relationship is forged between two hideous creatures, complete with them kissing. Even Steven Universe has to tow the line, and are more open towards things like homosexuality. On topic, I have never had any interest in Total Drama, but I'm amazed that, as fast as it became popular, it faded to obscurity.
