Early Sandler - Little Nicky (where it started to go wrong IMO) I have no issues with.
Almost everything after (Click aside, And I didn't mind Pixels) has been awful IMO

I think some of it is that Sandler is pretty low commitment entertainment. Not my thing, but I can definitely see teens just wanting to go with a relatively safe bet of what to expect, people tired after work who want something pretty easily digested, etc. Every niche needs filling.
That said, a lot of the Ridiculous 6 hype had to have been "okay, I have to see if it's THAT bad!".

Grown Ups might be the worst comedy I have ever watched in my life.
That's all.

He's made some real clunkers (Jack and Jill and That's my Boy were atrocious), but more often than not, I like his stuff.
Pixels was fun and the Do-Over was surprisingly good

Current Sandler films are less about the comedy and more about where he can take his family and friends on vacation this year.

Adam Sandler for me only really was interesting to watch for Happy Gilmore, however he is watchable if he is in a group ensemble like the longest yard.
Thing is in my experience Netflix works like this.
What shall we watch? I don't know lets have a look. (scrolls through some choices) Want to watch this action film? Nah, I'm more in the mood for a documentary film I'm not, how about a comedy film? Ok let's see what we can watch (more scrolling) Seen it seen it that's terrible. Oh just pick something Hey an Adam Sandler film this could be ok? Alright, let's try it.
Basically Adam Sandler is the easy choice if you can't decide and don't really care what you are watching.

I've ever understood the disdain. I grew up with Happy gilmote and Billy Madison. Watched him on SNl. Owned his CDs. I think it's just cool to not like him now. I love a good stupid comedy. Has he had some stinkers. Yep. But when he's making comedy slapstick style I will watch it all day. I just feel like he had success with Billy Madison, Wedding Singer and Happy Gilmore so he's made the same movie like 20 more times with a cut and paste plot.

Not my thing, but I can definitely see teens just wanting to go with a relatively safe bet of what to expect, people tired after work who want something pretty easily digested, etc. Every niche needs filling. That's pretty much my take, which is why I think it's silly when people get outraged whenever "Bayformers" outdraws "Elevated Entertainment for Enlightened Minds" or whatever. It's simple, a huge chunk of the audience just wanted something to watch. In which case yeah, generally inoffensive, simple mindless fun will outdraw features that cater to a more limited audience. Because day one, the general pop is going to see Bayformers, the film buffs will go to "Elevated". Some of the Bayformers crowd are there for the nostalgia. Some are a fan of certain featured actors, or of previous films by the director/producer. Some thought it looked good based on the trailer. Some wanted to be in the loop when it comes up in conversation at work/school/etc. Some got dragged along as a date/group activity. Some just wanted an activity to kill some free time. And, of course, can't forget those who went to see just how terrible it was, and why everyone who likes it is a STUPID IDIOT. The next day? About half to two-thirds of the people who saw "Elevated" are going to Bayformers. It's not stupidity, it's convenience.

Adam Sandler is a draw?!?
I guess the Netflix model is part of the success. Would you pay x amount for his film at the cinema?
Probably not. But for a low monthly cost, you get to watch his films and a lot more else, you probably don't mind watching his stuff much.

I'd have to say that my favorite Sandler films are 50 first dates and Click. Yeah, his early goofy comedies like Billy Madison are good mindless entertainment as well, but for me, those films were able to mix his typical comedy with some decent drama (though the premise of 50 first dates WAS kind of far-fetched, but then again, that can be said about most all of his films). That said, he's got some real clunkers (forget jack and jill, The Cobbler was dreadfully dull, and Anger Management was one of the most disapointing films i've seen).

When I see the beaten-down look and effort Adam Sandler has, I can't help but think if he doesn't envision that alternate universe where he made Punch-Drunk Love and thought "Y'know, I've got a lot of money already. I should just do this, I could be a fantastic character actor for the rest of my life."
I wish I had seen the movies he'd of made in that alternate universe.

I want to like the guy, and he's pretty talented, but he willingly just does a lot of garbage movies that recycle the same tired tropes, jokes, and plot lines.
Funny People, Click, and Big Daddy are his only films since the start of the millennium that are decent-to-good.

I hate this f***ing country. A lot of quality stuff gets noticed on Netflix, too. Going to bet Stranger Things has had impressive numbers, and Voltron Legendary Defender has done quite well, from what I've heard. Hope Lucha Underground's been doing well, but obviously that isn't exclusive content.
