Requires a bit of explanation: In December I was diagnosed with pneumonia in my left lung. I was out of work for about a week and a half, and when I got back in they informed me I did not qualify for a medical leave, so they used literally all my sick and personal time for this year to compensate for it. This was at a time when I had literally just gotten my time for the year, great way to start the new year, right? I did, however, have abundant vacation time saved up, and a couple months ago I decided that for the first week of April I would take a long weekend. However, my grandmother passed away a few weeks ago, and as a result I spent the first week of April tending to her service-including the day I had scheduled for. As a result, my head was not on straight and I forgot which day I had scheduled to take, so I was inexplicably not at work last Thursday. When we figured out what had happened, my supervisors were not happy, but at least understanding and gave me something along the lines of "Okay, you weren't thinking straight, we'll use an unscheduled vacation day. But DON'T let this happen again!"
And now today, as I was driving to work the "check engine oil level" light came on in my car. I pulled into the nearest service station to get it checked out-and it turns out that it requires a part they did not have in stock and needed to order, and until it is replaced my car is not safe for transportation. Which means they have to keep it overnight-which means I won't be at work today. When I called my supervisor to explain, she flat out said "This is not good, there is going to be disciplinary action." So now I am wound up pretty bad that I am going to lose my job when I report in for work on Sunday. I intend to take the paperwork from the auto shop to verify myself, but I doubt that will get me any leniency after what happened last week. I could use some positive vibes. Thanks for listening, need to get that out.

WTF? I knew employee rights could be shit to non-existent in certain states of America (I assume that's where you are) but didn't realise even pneumonia doesn't qualify for medical leave.
If you do live somewhere that gives you some basic rights then I'd speak to HR, union, lawyers or whatever other help is available.

Could you possibly get a friend or relative to take you to work?
We've come down pretty hard on our attendance policy recently, but it's due to people literally abusing the system. It sucks for the people who genuinely have issues, but it's such a pain in the ass for us when we have 200 scheduled and we lose 60 or more a day, so I can understand why some employers are strict. It doesn't take much anymore to get a quack doctor to sign a note to excuse people anymore.

I'm sorry you're having such a string of bad luck. There has to be some sort of transportation to your work. I don't know if you need your vehicle to actually do your work but as far as getting to and from I would think there are options for you. Whether it's using a taxi, an uber, a bus or getting rides from family or friends. I know some of that can be expensive but you gotta do what you gotta do to weather the storm until you get your car back.

We have a Federal policy, but it depends on how long you've been there and how many employees you have. I was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago and was a little over a month short of my one year anniversary. They put me on unpaid medical leave.

That really sucks, especially the health issues and dealing with a dead family member. I am still confused on how they can use Vacation time from the next year? However, I can see them being less forgiving about the car, uber is pretty inexpensive and easy to use. Either way, sucks happening on top of all of that, besides they shouldn't hold your illness and a death in the family against you, basically you should only be at one strike and they are treating it like 3.
But have you faced disciplinary action up to this point? Do you have a point/write up system? If so, and this is the first official disciplinary action you face, I am betting you still have a job and will be fine. Most places I have worked have a three strikes your out type of rule with write ups/points and often times, if they fire you before that have to pay unemployment, which most places hate doing.

Without going too deep: our company was taken over about a year and a half ago by a foreign entity, and they have been pulling some ugly doodoo. When I got pneumonia I applied for a sick leave-but after a week this particular person got in my ear with paranoid stuff (which I can't completely blame them for!) saying "This outfit is rough, don't give them an excuse!" So I went back in after a week and a half out. And it turns you need to be out at least two weeks to qualify for a medical leave. And hence they just decided to use all my sick and personal time for it. I've avoided yelling at this particular person a few times already for it.

Are we sure it's not just a formal step they have to take as per policy since you have been absent a few times?
It's now on file but not really an issue with your employment as the outcome will be a slap on the wrist?

I got fired from my last job because the assistant boss, who at one point for the first year and a half or so actually liked me enough to approve a pretty significant pay raise when my immediate supervisor pushed for one, just decided she didn't like me. Personality conflict is how someone 'in the know' put it to me eventually (since that bitch...sorry/not sorry, but that's exactly what she is...literally refused to tell me WHY they were firing me when I loudly questioned what the f*** this shit was all about.)
But, WV is an 'At Will' state...legally they could have fired me because they didn't like the tie I wore to work the Monday prior.
A year and a half later I'm STILL unemployed...not for lack of trying to find a job, but shit's rough in a dying state run by people who seemingly want to bankrupt the state and sell it back to Virginia for $.30 on the dollar.
Did I mention I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer a couple months after I lost my job (and, thus, my insurance)? Cause...yeah...that hapened. Good times.
But, hey, karma is real; a little more than a year after that all went down the bitch was out of a job because HER boss lost her re-election bid (I worked in State Government for one of the Constitutional Officers.) So...paybacks, directly or indirectly, are always sweet.
I guess my point is; I feel for ya, man. I feel for ya.

I was scheduled for Friday (worked half shift, couldn't stand anymore went to hospital, that's when the decided to amputate). Had Saturday and Sunday off. They had me fired before Monday for "missing 3 days of work".

Reminds me of my friend who I worked with who ended up getting fired because he would not lift heavy boxes despite having spine surgery not even a week before.

Friendly reminder, not every city has ridesharing. Hell, a lot of rural areas don't have any public transportation at all, at least convenient to lowlying regions. True story, last year my mother's brother died, and my mom and dad had to go to NC for the funeral. My brother and I were working, and couldn't get time off. Neither of us drive, so getting to and from work would be almost impossible, as we live about 5 miles outside of town, and have almost no PT. We called a cab company that listed as being in town, only to be informed that it was actually based out of a town almost 20 miles away, and every trip would be more than $60 one way, not making it even close to being worth the money we'd make. So, we had to get a hotel in town for the time that they were gone. So, it's not feasible for everyone.

I was once fired for taking a nap while on my lunch break . At the office , we had a room in the office which was empty. Our dept ( of 4 people) used it as a break room . We had chairs , a small table and coffee machine . That day I went to punch out for my lunch break , but the machine was not working , I let my manager know . He wrote it down. The owner of the company was making his rounds and happened to see me passed out . He went to hr to have them check if I was punched , they of course said no . He had my manager sendme home. My manager ( who I dont at all ) said he would sort it out by the next morning. They fired me next day .

I'm just glad that working in the Security industry gives me options. I feel if I left one company it wouldn't be long before I'm working again as the industry is always looking for people. I've taken a lot of shit like others have but being let go really doesn't bother me.

There was a big TV in the lobby for people to watch our programming there, and I was coming in early, before my shift started, to play since I only had a 13 inch CRTV at the time. Well, as I'm playing SD: Just Bring It, who should walk in but our general manager, there to do some weekend business. We exchanged hellos, he went into his office, I bundled up my stuff and went to go clear my belongings out of our office. Amazingly enough, he never mentioned anything about it again, and I stayed there for another 5 years. He was the best GM I've ever worked for in this business, and that was the best place I ever worked at.
