The era that gave us online battling and trading. While it really didn't add much (save for new evolutions for past pokes), it was a big step forward for the games

I don't know if I actually loved this series or it was such a step up from Ruby and Sapphire that it caused me to love it. Seriously though I played Platinum and loved it at the time. Thought it was neat seeing an expanded view of the verse and had some of my favorite pokemon in it.

Never played these ones, I'm waiting for the inevitable remakes for this gen to give em a shot.

You actually was screwed getting a decent Fire type if you didn't pick the starter

I was in high school when I got that game. I feel so old. That said...
Diamond and Pearl were my comeback to the series after skipping Gen 3 and I liked them a lot, but kind of not really something I really look back on all that fondly and think pretty much all the games after were improvements on. I did start a new Platinum runthrough a few months ago though that was going alright, I should get back to it. Left off when Sun and Moon came out.

Holy crap, I remember going to Target when I was 12 then my mum surprised me with a new ice blue Nintendo DS and Pokemon Diamond. How time flies.
Platinum was the better Sinnoh game though. Better story, more Pokemon and faster gameplay. To this day I still wonder why Diamond and Pearl's regional Pokedex had only half the new generation's Pokemon. Led us to a lack of fire types and strange Gym Leader/Elite Four teams.

You actually was screwed getting a decent Fire type if you didn't pick the starter I think it says a lot that the Elite Four member who was a Fire trainer had BOTH available fire types and three random-as-hell fillers (and only because they had one fire attack) says a lot. Platinum was honestly a godsend in my eyes for fixing some of the... curious decisions they made with Diamond/Pearl.

Diamond & Pearl were sadly not great. Some massive step ups in the franchise but bogged down by technical and design mishaps that made them unfun. Platinum is the definitive Gen IV game.

Truth be told the best thing to come out of Gen 4 was the Silver and Gold Remakes

The physical/special split was good, and I liked the Underground, but yeah, definitely games with some flaws that brought the experience down.
Diamond is still probably the pokemon game I have put the most time into.
