Virus when viewing F.A.N. on Mobile

I posted this in Ask a Mod, but thought I'd put it here too as a general warning:

Quick heads up, I think there's a virus problem with viewing the site on mobile.

I was browsing a thread on my droid, when suddenly a file named "Pornvideo.apk" began downloading without me consenting to any download. I hit the back button on the page think I had maybe clicked a pop-up, and then another download of "Pornvideo.apk-1" began.

I didn't open either and deleted both so, hopefully, I'm alright. But I looked online and apparently it's some Trojan spyware fraudulently claiming it's the FBI putting illegal porn on one's phone and demanding a payment of of few hundred dollars in three days, and then it freezes the phone, making it unusable.

There have been some weird pop-ups on the site from viewing it on mobile over the years (even with pop-up blocker on), but I've never had it involuntarily download something so shady before.

I want to second this, only I've thankfully never had a forced download yet.

I keep getting that stupid Walmart one or whatever it is. It's a sudden redirect that scares the heck out of me, because it just flashes on the screen and makes my phone vibrate really loud. It's like 1990s internet pop-ups.

I'm on iPhone so I don't get downloads but I keep getting stupid page redirects while I'm in the middle of reading something

I've had some weird pages pop up. It's the worst when I'm in the middle of posting and it pops up, thus losing anything I typed out already.

It seems to come and go. It'll be good for months, then out of nowhere it'll happen numerous times whenever visiting.

Been getting the same thing too. Whenever I post here, I'm always alert and ready to click off the site instantly if I have to.

I'm not why sure it happens, but ProBoards should do something about it, because it ruins a good site.

That's exactly how it is for me as well. I had an awesome 4 or 5 month streak where I was posting here strictly from my phone, with no issues at all. For the past week however, I haven't been able to be on the forum longer than 30 seconds without being redirected to some spam nonsense. I'm currently on my PC which I rarely ever use anymore.

Gang, I'd check your download history on your phones. When the two files started downloading for me, it wasn't from a sudden pop-up or clicking an ad. It just started downloading without permission.

I'd get the pop-up stuff randomly too, but nothing this insidious. How do we know this isn't affecting looking at the site on a desktop/laptop/raindrop/droptop browser?

Guys and gals, there is zero we can do on this. It is something to do with the ads, you need to go to the support board (I think there is a link at the bottom of each page, if not http://support.proboards.com) and let them know. There is also an "Report Ad" option at the bottom of each page, using it will let you choose the last page you were on, what happened and send it to Proboards that way.

They stopped support of the Proboards app shortly after partnering with Tapatalk and Tapatalk has become a mess, IMO, with their push to be a social media app. I miss the Proboards app, was simple and easy to use.

Tapatalk has (or had) a paid version but also an ad supported, free version.

Yeah but it was cheap, worth it to browse ProBoards in relative comfort. Although it is quite glitchy there's no intrusive ads and everything is easy to read.
