'Roseanne' Getting a Revival

EXCLUSIVE: One of the biggest comedies of the 1990s, Roseanne, is making a comeback. I hear an eight-episode limited series revival of the hit ABC blue-collar family comedy is in the works with the key cast members reprising their roles, including Roseanne Barr, John Goodman and Sara Gilbert, with Laurie Metcalf and others in the process of joining them. The new installment, produced by the original series’ executive producers Tom Werner, Barr and Bruce Helford as well as Gilbert, is currently in the marketplace, with multiple networks bidding, including Roseanne original home ABC, and Netflix, which has been staging reboots of classic sitcoms, including Full House and One Day At a Time, along with new installments of cult favorites Arrested Development and Gilmore Girls.

Well, this is going to make that last season feel even more awkward

I mean, I'm already used to ignoring the last season of Rosanne. If this sucks I'll just ignore the last 2 seasons. if it's good... no reason to hate good tv

I have the whole series on DVD, but I usually just watch the first 2 or 3 seasons, more than the others.

True, but it flat-out said in the end that Dan died of his heart attack, yet they're bringing back John Goodman. We already know what happened there.

It might be an outright retcon, probably with some joke directed at the final season. They indulged in meta humor sometimes, like about Becky's recasting, so that wouldn't be too out of place.

I first read this off Hollywood Reporter. Apparently Roseanne has already spoke about what happened to the characters, including Dan.

Checking the story again, I guess she blogged it in 2009. So don't assume any of this is set in stone or is even considered for the new series.

Aside from everything else. I just can't picture Rosanne playing a down to earth working class woman anymore.

In 2009, Barr laid out her vision for the Connors in the 21st century on her website, as summarized by Deadline:

Roseanne and Jackie opening the first medical marijuana dispensary in Lanford; Dan reappearing alive after faking his death; DJ being published; Mark dying in Iraq; David leaving Darlene for a woman half his age; Darlene coming out, meeting a woman and having a baby with her; Becky working at Walmart; Arnie befriending the Governor of Illinois and remarrying Nancy, Bev selling a painting for $10,000; Jerry and the grandsons forming a boy band; and Bonnie being arrested for selling crack.

So Dan faked his death? When I think realistic family show I know I think of FAKED DEATH.

I can only assume this would be facetious, not to mention it doesn't make any sense, contradicting both versions of events presented on the show. Then again, this is Roseanne Barr, so who knows.
