While there has been many Books, TV Shows, and Movie's on It. Do you believe the stories or do you think it is a hoax.
You can find reports that people saying they never had issues with the home.
What say you?

Really hard to say Last current pic I can find is from 4 years ago and it is kind of creepy Did a Google Image search. Can't tell which ones are the real house, or the one used in the movie(s). But most recent ones look like they changed those top floor side windows that gave the house that creepy skull look.

Didn't the family admit to bullshitting? Yeah, there's a book where the author and the dad of the family admitted that they made it all up to make money. I read it years ago.

I think that the ghost hunter type person also had a hand in it, but could be mistaken. If they did, then it sort of discredits their reputation and profession.

I believe this was the same investigator responsible for the whole Conjuring/Annabelle myth too. That alone strips away any credibility they have.

Admitted hoax. Here's all the details: skeptoid.com/episodes/4020It's creepy in the sense that a dude killed his family there, but you don't need fake poltergeists for that.

Admitted hoax. Here's all the details: skeptoid.com/episodes/4020It's creepy in the sense that a dude killed his family there, but you don't need fake poltergeists for that. My internet is so slow right now I can't even open the page. But if memory serves me correctly about the "hoax" the lutz family bought the house and talked to their lawyer about writing the book about the ghosts. They fabricated it completely and sold the book etc. but the confirmation of this came from the author of the book and not George or his wife. And the basis of the hoax was so they could afford the house during bad financial times. So Personally I don't take that for gospel. I went through a huge personal investigation out of curiosity. Even studying the 911 call Butch made after the murders. He has changed his story multiple times in his attempts to get out of prison. It stands to reason he would make it up and plead insanity. I believe he was in heavy drugs and did hear voices and stuff. I believe him when he says his sister killed the children while he killed his parents and then her after seeing what she did. The skeptic in me believes this as truth and the lutz family taking Ronnies ghost story to another level makes sense. However his story changed so often in clear attempts to get paroled. And their story did not change. Most people who owned the house after said they never experienced anything. Also to answer the questions about the houses appearance it was remodeled and the upper windows removed because tourists became an issue on the property. So it no longer has that face look. The I want to believe part of me sees plenty of evidence in the 911 call alone that Ronnie/Butch may have been possessed and the Lutz family did experience demonic activities. This really becomes a matter of how open one is to paranormal activity being real. That alone will make your mind up. If youre open to that then there IS evidence to suggest it can have been real. Its seriously one of my favorite subjects. I love talking about it and learning more about it.

George and Kathy Lutz maintained that their accounts were true even on their deathbed. I definitely don't believe they lied about it at all. Not saying that everything written or said about it was true, however, there would be no reason for them to continue making money on their deathbed.

Well no, it isn't how open you are or not. As in the Ghosts thread, it's wanting evidence vs seemingly not requiring it.
With this, on one side you have clear evidence of a hoax vs a ghost story with no evidence. To take for example the 911 call as 'evidence of possession'; first you'd have to have established that possession is a thing that happens. There isn't any concrete proof of that either.
One can 'believe' whatever they want. Any evidence points to hoax. A guy killed his family, and his defense helped to invent a ghost story that made money for multiple parties.
Anecdotal evidence is not quality evidence. If something isn't testable and falsifiable under controlled conditions, it's worthless when it comes to the scientific method.

It just seems like people who are open to the idea are less aggressive with the need for solid proof over what you call anecdotal. Im at work and have bad internet but i will return to this thread for some solid discussion after. I love this subject.

I think it's just some folks with an overactive imagination. There's no such thing as a haunted house.

Obviously a hoax. My friends and I drove out to the house one night to check it out. The front door is on the side of the house now; I guess because of dumb people like us coming to stare it. A security guard/cop guy came by my car and asked what we were doing. We told him checking out the house and he told us to stay in the car. Seemed like he dealt with it often.
